Department Profile

The Database Administration and Architecture team is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting our global database environment, with a heavy emphasis on SQL Server. Responsibilities would encompass day-to-day administration work when escalated by the offshore team, design and implementation of daily maintenance and optimization tasks, assisting developers in the creation of new databases, researching and assisting teams to make their application/database cloud ready. The team also provides support to all vendor and packaged applications which use MSSQL and Oracle database as a backend. The team has members in Boston, London, and India as part of on-off shore model. This position will be based in the Boston office.

Position Overview

The Database Administrator is responsible for ensuring the availability and optimization of the database infrastructure. Other duties include automating repetitive tasks, early detection and automated mitigation of potential issues using SCOM, ServiceNow, PowerShell etc. Over time, the Database Administrator will also have the opportunity to get involved with other database platforms and more complex tasks as they familiarize themselves with the existing infrastructure and applications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support database service delivery to the all business units 24x7, including On-Call rotation.
  • Implement SQL server enhancements and updates to ensure DBMS technology is current.
  • Provide in-depth troubleshooting for performance related production issues.
  • Assist in building and maintaining the SQL infrastructure, virtualized and physical clusters.
  • Optimize databases and query performance.
  • Implement and maintain SQL HA functionality including: Always On Availability Groups, Always On Failover Cluster Instance.
  • Assist developers with their database code development efforts, focusing on performance, usability, and scalability, redesign application and database for moving to Cloud.
  • Maintain and/or develop new SSRS/Power BI reports and build related and efficient ETL processes.
  • Participate in new databases projects and assist with database design and architecture either on-premise or cloud.
  • Automating repeated task by integrating existing tools using TSQL/PowerShell or other language.

Qualifications:
  • Expertise in the following core technologies and skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science (or a related technical field)
  • 7+ years of experience working with large MS SQL Server databases in a 24x 7 x 365 production environment
  • Experience in managing a large and varied SQL Server estate.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL internals
  • Expert in automation programming (preferably PS or equivalent)
  • Expert in SQL debugging skills
  • Solid knowledge of database storage platforms and related configuration
  • Experience administrating databases in clustered environment
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Managing and implementing DR solutions for SQL Server
  • Experience in SQL performance tuning and query optimization
  • Strong problem resolving skills
  • Exposure to basic management duties, related to team or project
  • Will require to learn Cloud Technology (Primarily Azure) and Oracle 12c administration with OEM..
  • Familiarity with the following technologies is preferred:
  • Oracle 12c
  • Cloud technologies primarily Azure

Candidates must have a strong background in database administration. A candidate's ability to spot problem areas, analyze solutions, propose resolutions, and direct the implementation of those resolutions are essential skills for this role. Candidates should have a solid technical background, good written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as within a team environment. A successful candidate is a motivated, enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to quickly learn new skills.
