Job Description:

Updated HM notes - Placing high emphasis on the linguistics and language data experience, need more than just someone who speaks Portuguese

Client is seeking a Portuguese Language Data Associate to join our data team. This role focuses on language data, primarily in the areas of grammar writing, text annotation, and general localization deliverables.

The Language Data Associate must be capable of:
- Building a thorough understanding of data labeling conventions and provide support to global sites
- Localizing established guidelines from English into Portuguese
- Improving grammars and related artifacts by expanding coverage, and identifying and eliminating bugs
- Delivering high quality data output under aggressive deadlines
- Working autonomously with minimal direction
- Handling unique data analysis requests from a range of data customers
- Contributing to process improvements to reduce handling time and improve data output
- Diving deep into issues and implement solutions independently
- Providing quality expertise to other team members and coaching improvements

In addition, the Portuguese Language Data Associate will need to quickly understand changes in response to customers' requests and change workflows accordingly. The Portuguese Language Data Associate must have a passion for data, efficiency, and accuracy as well as:
- Show proactive efforts in addressing issues and problems
- Excellent communication, strong organizational skills and very detailed-oriented
- Comfortable working in a fast paced, highly collaborative, dynamic work environment
- Willingness to support several projects at one time, and to accept re-prioritization as necessary
- Ability to keep up with changing project conventions and priorities

REQUIRED SKILLS
- BA or BS degree
- Native level fluency in Portuguese, both written and verbal
- Business level fluency in English
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office/Excel
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
-Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills and a solution-oriented attitude

PREFERRED SKILLS
- BA/BS degree in Linguistics/Computational Linguistics, or equivalent practical experience in data mark-up
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Experience working with grammars and other forms of NLP technology
- Independent, proactive, and self-motivated with record in timely delivery of requests
- Ability to quickly grasp technical concepts and learn in-house user-interface tools
- Experience with command line tools

- The team needs candidates who are able to work in the Cambridge office
- The right candidate will have native Portuguese language fluency

Data Collection Researcher work & deliverables:
- Analyzing complex language data sets (a data set of sentence constructions or colloquial phrases)
- Consistently handling new or different types of language data and devising guidelines for how individual or team will process it
- Localization of ambiguous English text into native language
- Identifying bugs in data or workflows, contributing to general process improvement
- Capable of self-training

Day-to-Day:
On any given work day, you may be...
- Attending a working session with your team to deliberate on some tricky issues and questions with a Language Engineer
- Attending a training or serving as a mentor through someone else's training;
- And last but not least, the majority of your day would be spent completing your assigned tasks independently which could span multiple workflows or work types
*Your day would include a mix of independently completing language data analysis, evaluation, manipulation or mark-up tasks, and working with your team to resolve issues.
