Job Title: Environmental Services Technician II Reports To: Robert Iler, ManagerGroup/Division: Global Chemicals, LCDCareer Band: II Job Track: AssociatePosition Location: Fair Lawn, New JerseyNumber of Direct Reports: 0Day/Shift (if applicable): Day or 1st shiftFLSA Status (Exempt/Non-Exempt): Non ExemptRelocation (if applicable): NoPosition Summary: Safely handle all chemical waste in a manner which complies with local, state, and federal regulations. Provide support to the department in the operation of the wastewater and groundwater remediation systems.Key Responsibilities: Performs handling, segregation, packaging, treatment, and disposal activities involving both hazardous and non hazardous waste in accordance with applicable environmental regulations. (primary function)Performs regulatory compliance inspections and maintains inspection records. (primary function)Maintains wastewater and groundwater treatment systems in compliant operation. Including, but not limited to, inspections, meter readings, record keeping, sampling, and troubleshooting system failures or upsets (secondary function)Member of the Emergency Response or Spill Team. On 24 hour call for plant emergencies and treatment system trouble (not needed)Performs waste management activities for the Bridgewater site as needed. (possible)Active participant in waste minimization program using Lean and PPI methods. (Not needed)Performs daily housekeeping and 5S duties as assigned (primary function)Assist with the development of Standard Work or Departmental Operating Procedures (DOP's) (possible, but unlikely)Proper selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE) up to and including Level B and SCBA (must be able to wear respiratory protection. Air purifying respirator and supplied air respirator. Other duties as assigned
Working knowledge of various regulatory agencies: e.g. NJDEP, RCRA, DPCC, DOT. (yes)
Chemical handling practices including Neutralization Kettle and Scrubber units. (maybe)
Knowledge of wastewater and groundwater treatment equipment such as pumps, carbon absorbers, air strippers, monitoring devices, sampling techniques, and other associated equipment. (not needed)
Ability to properly identify waste and segregate hazardous waste from non regulated waste streams. (yes)
Knowledgeable of chemical waste handling procedures and disposal activities. (yes)
Ability to work independently or within a group setting. (yes)
Ability to effectively manage time to meet deliverables. (yes)Critical thinking and problem solving (yes)24 or 40 hour Hazwoper trained. (must be)Ability to operate motorized material handling equipment. (yes)New Jersey State N2 Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operators license desired. (not needed)
Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:
Associates degree in chemistry or environmental field preferred.1 – 3 years of chemical industry experience.Ability to work additional hours to ensure the department meets it's deliverablesCritical thinking and problem solving skillsMedical cleared to be an active participant on the emergency response team including the use of respiratory protection, up to and including SCBAPC literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and ExcelWorking Conditions:Work performed is throughout the facility, both indoors and outside at ground level, sub grade, and elevated heights.Routinely subjected to heat, cold, rain, snow.High degree of chemical exposure during outside tasksSubjected to walking, standing, bending, turning, twisting, and climbing as normal tasks are performed.Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including Level BThis position has not been approved for Relocation Assistance.
