EHS Specialist III

Location: Peterborough, Ontario
Duration is 6 months to start, with expectation the assignment will extend to 1 year in length.


The Environmental Specialist is responsible for implementing and maintaining the specific aspects on Environmental issues (air, climate change, waste, water). This individual will also function in a team environment with other members of the plant level EHS staff, Technicians and Hourly personnel to ensure EHS compliance.

Key responsibilities essential functions include:

• Partner with Operations to ensure site EHS compliance with particular focus on regulatory and Client environmental requirements (e.g., NPRI, NSN, TRA, TDG, PCBs, GHGs, Air/Water/Waste Programs)
• Provide technical support in the execution of the environmental elements of Client's EHS Management System
• Build and maintain strong relationships with representatives from regulatory agencies (e.g., Environment Canada, MOE, municipality)
• Lead environmental and sustainability improvement initiatives
• Integrate risk-based decision-making in the management of environmental programs, projects and responses to environmental incidents
• Remain current with environmental regulations and raises awareness of the business impact of emerging environmental issues
• Lead local applicable incident response matters as appropriate

Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor of Arts in Biology, Hydrogeology or Geology or related technical discipline
- minimum 5 years+ experience in EHS Activities supporting a site service
- Field compliance experience with federal and state EHS regulations (CAA, CWA, OSHA, codes, etc)
- Proven project and program management skills
