Job Description:

We have exciting new opportunities for experienced and motivated industry professionals in the Wallingford, CT area in our Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Group for a Staff Substation Designer.  The Staff Designer will report to the T&D CADD Section Manager and provide technical drafting and design support for assigned projects.  This role requires the ability to support multiple projects and to prioritize work assignments.  This position will be responsible for an array of challenging assignments including the drafting and design of engineering deliverables on multiple complex utility projects alongside engineering staff. 
The Staff Designer position will require strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills, as well as demonstrate the ability to function in a team environment. Responsibilities include the execution and development of deliverables for high and extra high voltage substations (HV and EHV – 12kV and above).  This exciting opportunity will provide for continued professional growth as a part of our established mentorship programs.
 
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Apply client standards to design and drafting activities.
Perform drafting assignments by applying standardized drawing techniques from sketches, verbal instructions and notes under the direction of an engineer.
Create sketches, layouts, plans and drawings for substation physical equipment.
Work with vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD and Microstation.
Develop & modify control schematics, wiring diagrams and equipment connection diagrams.
Develop, modify and review drawings according to client and/or company drafting standards.
Maintain current knowledge of design and drafting procedures.
Review all work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting for engineering review.
Review work from drafters.
Provide an accurate accounting of time spent on projects.
Perform design assignments by applying learned industry standard design techniques in the creation of electrical and structural drawings.

Requirements:
Education:  Associate's or Bachelor's degree in drafting technology or related field.
Demonstrated proficiency and working knowledge of the latest versions of AutoCAD and/or Micro Station.
10 – 15 years of experience in a drafting of electrical and industrial/mechanical systems. 
Experience in detailing and design of utility substations is required.
Previous consulting, utility or field experience required.
Require minimal direction on project designs.
Ability to provide leadership and guidance to junior drafting and design staff.
Highly-motivated and possess a strong attention to detail.
Possesses strong verbal and written communications skills.
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects with clear expectations and timelines, and to prioritize work.
Ability to take direction from and work collaboratively with individuals at all levels in the organization in a team environment.
