Job Title- (Product Marketing ) Development Manager
Location-New York,NY 10022
Duration-6-12 Months contract+
Identify and lead the development of propositions that capture new opportunities specific to Hive's North American markets. Take a strategic view on how we can differentiate versus our competitors in the US and Canada, both long-term, and to support short-term tactical initiatives. Work within an international team, advising global proposition leads on how to tailor existing and upcoming global propositions for the US & Canadian markets.
•At least 5 years' experience in either a proposition product marketing development, or commercial role
•Previous experience of setting strategic direction and driving long-term projects ( taking a product to market – launching a new product)
•Experience working in the field of consumer electronics, software, entertainment, lifestyle industries especially those with a strong subscription-based model, telecoms ( Digital companies)
•Ideally knowledge of working in Lean start-up or similar, and familiarity with an agile and lean development environment ( Sig Six Sigma) Plus
•Graduate level or equivalent experience at a suitable level ( Marketing degree Plus)
•Working as part of an international team Plus
•International travel required up to 10% of time, travel within the US required up to 25% of time Manager based in the UK
•Own and lead development of propositions that help meet Hive's medium to long term objectives within North America
•Identify consumer and competitor trends within the smart home sector in the US & Canada, working in collaboration with the Hive Insights team
•Identify and evaluate longer-term opportunities for new Hive propositions, and lead work on finding ways to capture these opportunities
•Support the growth of Hive's North American retail presence by working closely with the North American retail team on developing specific local retail propositions
•Understand wider channel requirements and identify how we can tailor and expand our portfolio to support Hive's commercial objectives in the US & Canada
•Plan and conduct appropriate user research to identify use cases and define props, in collaboration with the customer insights team
•Forge close working relationships with the global brand and pricing team, as well as North American marketing to position new propositions within the Hive ecosystem
•A strategic thinker, able to take independent ownership and deliver proposition idea in line with Hive's business strategy in North America
Generally, what I meant by "propositions development?.
We NOT targeting candidates who have a lot of experience building campaigns and communications strategies for products/propositions that exist. But we are targeting candidates with a broader background and/or more product experience. People who've had to figure out what the company they work for will sell as well as the best way to sell that to the customer. Many of the profiles I've reviewed have their strengths in how to market it / build campaigns around a product/proposition that exists.
We are targeting someone who has led change, and/or taken new ideas to market before, additionally someone who can represent the team, with a specific focus and deeper understanding of the markets in the US and Canada. Who can look at consumer trends in general, what is happening in our competitive landscape, with new technology developments in the smart home space and who understand the potential partnerships the commercial teams are looking to strike, and off the basis of that analyse and recommend what products & services we should sell in the US and Canada.
This will involve understanding what benefits these products and services will have to consumers and the use cases around how/when consumers will look to use them. Some of the roles are looking for new opportunities, another part to look at our global portfolio of products and services, and work out how/if these needs to be tailored in order to work with US and Canadian consumers.
This will also involve ability to build business cases, work with a biz dev partner to explore new joint offers / bundles with partners, work with the commercial team to tailor the product and service to the channel we should offer it in, and finally work with marketing team to lock down the right messaging / campaigns to promote the offers.
This is a very broad role. It requires a high level of drive, personal maturity, ability to think through the detail, deal with a lot of strongly minded stakeholders, and push initiatives through from idea to launch.
The best way I can think to describe that is someone who is very entrepreneurial, who takes ownership, and who can also look strategically at different opportunities. Again, thinking about the "what” we sell, as well as "how” we bring it to market.
This is why it is for Connected Homes as a whole a strategically very important role (given the size of the market in the US), and why we're looking for quite a senior individual to help us really set-up our portfolio in 2018.
o Previous experience managing several product portfolios by performing market analysis, creating product vision, strategies and roadmaps, designing new products and services, creating value propositions, developing pricing models, performing cost/benefit analysis, creating business plans and administering P&L for multiple product-lines is a PLUS
oNOT LOOKING for an experience that is mostly B2B focused, but looking for someone with an in-depth understanding of consumers.
