User Experience Research Assistant for G Suite Search & Intelligence Team
This position is primarily based in Google's office in Sunnyvale, CA. You may also be asked to make day trips to user study locations outside of the Bay Area, and potentially work from other offices (temporary travel), too, as needed. The position is a contract role for a duration of 6 months and can be extended up to 1 year depending on performance and need.
As a Research Assistant, you'll have the opportunity to support our research initiatives in developing innovative, user-friendly, best-of-breed products. We are looking for individuals who have excellent communication skills, are diligent, detail-oriented, and can work fairly independently.
Coordinating with product managers, designers, and other researchers to plan research biweekly studies across Apps products
Preparing user research activities (working with the recruiters to schedule study sessions, setting up the usability lab etc.).
Moderating in-person and remote usability tests, concept tests, and in-depth interview
Administering questionnaires, surveys, and interviews.
Taking notes during user study sessions.
Analyzing qualitative & quantitative data.
Synthesizing observations with the product team
Communicating findings from the study to the research lead.
Creating reports (including creating graphs, highlight videos, slide decks etc.).
Analyzing, interpreting and summarizing existing research reports.

G Suite Search & Intelligence (Google Assistant)
In Apps we're rethinking what productivity and communication mean, and how they intersect in today's technology ecosystem. User Experience (UX) is at the forefront of everything we do, and Research plays an important role in creating inspired, refined and even magical experience for users. You'll be working alongside extremely talented Product Managers, User Experience Designers, Researchers, and Engineers to help test out new product feature ideas. The G Suite Search & Intelligence team is focused on delivering enterprise search across our G Suite product suite, as well as developing machine learning and intelligence capabilities, including the Google Assistant for G Suite.
Mandatory Minimum qualifications:
- BA/BS in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, Experimental Psychology, Anthropology, Information Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in an applied research setting, including experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices. Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation and collaboration skills.
- Experience with remote and unmoderated usability testing tools, such as UserZoom, Validatelly, and UserTesting.com.
- Strong understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
