? Bachelor?s degree is not required.
? Associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or a related field , or equivalent degree/certification from a technical institute is highly preferred, or 2 years documented work experience in a directly-related military technical field. Education programs should include electronic circuit theory; digital systems design; MW, UHF, VHF radio operation and troubleshooting; fiber design, installation and troubleshooting; and other non-ABET accredited courses in engineering.
? High School diploma or equivalent is required.
? With Some Education: With either an Associate's Degree in a related field or 2+ year's military work experience as described in the Education section above, Level 2 requires add'l 10+ years directly-related experience in a technical/engineering environment.
? Experience in Lieu of Education: Without additional post-high school education or applicable military experience, 15+ years of directly-related work experience in a technical/engineering environment is required; work as an OSP designer, planning designer or CO designer for a Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) or Competitive Local Exchange Carrier (CLEC) is highly preferred.
? MicroStation or similar directly-transferable experience is required.
Provides design expertise in assisting project manager and other engineering personnel in implementing telecommunications projects, supporting field maintenance crews and other related electronics engineering activities. Position responsibilities include a combination of planning, design, and implementation tasks, for assigned telecommunication projects involving outside plant, field site and/or central office facilities.
Typical Tasks may include but are not limited to:
? Set up and operate specialized or standard test equipment to diagnose, test, or analyze the performance of electronic components, assemblies, or systems.
? Modify, maintain, and repair electronics equipment and systems to ensure that they function properly.
? Troubleshoot microprocessors or electronic instruments, equipment, or systems, using electronic test equipment such as logic analyzers.
? Inspect newly installed equipment to adjust or correct operating problems.
? Prepare or maintain design, testing, or operational records and documentation.
? Conduct or coordinate the installation and operation of electronic equipment and systems.
? Assemble circuitry for electronic systems according to engineering instructions, production specifications, or technical manuals.
? Perform simulation studies and document findings in formal reports.
? Compiles technical results in summary form such as tables, reports, and graphics to support engineering staff.
? Develops and maintains databases related to engineering/scientific applications.
? Conducts efficiency studies on various projects and provides recommendations.
? Consult with engineers to discuss and interpret design concepts, and determine requirements of detailed working drawings
? Assist in the review and modification of design drawings.
? Examine electronic schematics and supporting documents to develop, compute, and verify specifications for drafting data, such as configuration of parts, dimensions, and tolerances
? Provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, or specifications informing others how devices, parts, equipment, or structures are to be fabricated, constructed, assembled, modified, maintained, or used
? Prepares engineering designs for the development, installation and modification of BPA facilities.
? Prepares and processes work statements, procurement requests, detail sheets, receiving reports and invoices for various contracts.
? Performs field research by traveling to remote sites to collect physical data.
? Provides technical support to construction, operations and maintenance personnel
? Participates on teams to research and test telecommunication and related equipment.
? Assists in development of requirements for technical specifications for procurement of telecommunications systems and equipment, and provides technical support in the administration of material contracts and turnkey system contracts.
? Prepare detailed design, material, or procurement specifications for equipment, ensuring that technical tradeoffs have been considered, and that decisions conform to existing policies and standards and are within budgetary constraints.
? May coordinate work activities of other contract team members workers engaged in drafting or, designing layouts for assigned telecommunications projects
? May coordinate, conduct or manage the building, installation, testing or operation of electronics circuits, equipment, or systems.
? Evaluate information to determine compliance with standards; use relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards
? Keep up-to-date technically, applying new knowledge to the work to be performed.
