Summary: The Surveying and Mapping Department is responsible for providing land survey and mapping support in the maintenance, operation and development of new BPA facilities. Adjust and operate surveying instruments, such as the theodolite and electronic distance-measuring equipment, and compile notes, make sketches and enter data into computers. This position works independently to provide support to the survey staff by checking field notes, downloading survey data from field equipment, computing and adjusting survey field data.

Education, Experience, Job Training:
? Associate of Science degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering or demonstrated work experience (Required)
? LSIT (Preferred)
? Level 1 ? 1-5 years experience
? Level 2 ? 5-9 years experience
? Level 3 ? 10+ years experience

Typical Tasks may include but are not limited to:
? Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, and electronic distance-measuring equipment.
? Perform calculations to determine earth curvature corrections, atmospheric impacts on measurements, traverse closures and adjustments, azimuths, level runs, and placement of markers.
? Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings.
? Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
? Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances, and elevations.
? Client out grids, and determine horizontal and vertical controls.
? Compare survey computations with applicable standards to determine adequacy of data.
? Set out and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation.
? Conduct surveys to ascertain the locations of natural features and man-made structures on the Earth's surface, underground, and underwater using electronic distance-measuring equipment and other surveying instruments.

Specific Tasks:
? Develop, create, store, and maintain the survey sections electronic and hardcopy databases
? Manage, direct and perform the collection of survey data for route, engineering design, property, geodetic and construction surveying primarily in support of BPA?s Transmission Line Engineering and Realty Sections.
? Create survey base maps for transmission line design and land acquisition
? Must have knowledge of professional surveying practices and procedures; state and federal laws affecting land surveying and boundaries.
? Provide technical support to engineers, land surveyors, cartographers, environmental specialists, other professionals and technicians within the Division
? Facilitate the flow of data between the Survey Section and other groups inside BPA, particularly Mapping, Photogrammetry and Transmission Line Design
? Research and assemble record data for BPA and contract personnel
? Serve as a representative of the COTR to monitor, inspect and review survey work performed by private survey contractors for compliance with technical specifications, work schedules and recommends approval of deliverables
? Thoroughly inspect and check deliverables for accuracy and correctness; deliverables include field note sheets, computation sheets, hard-shell plan and profile maps, final mile maps

Specific Skill Requirements:
? Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology (Required)
? Knowledge of principles and methods for describing the features of land, including physical characteristics and location (Required)
? Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involve in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models (Required)
? Knowledge of various horizontal and vertical coordinate systems and datums (ie. State Plane Coordinate Systems, UTM grid system, NAD83, NAD27, NAVD88, NGVD29) (Required)
? Proficient use of Microstation and PLSCADD Transmission Line Design software (Preferred)

? ASTM F2413-05, Class 75 EH rated footwear with over the ankle lace up and rigid sole and heel
