Education/Experience Requirements:

Education:
? Bachelor?s degree in Electronic Engineering or a related field is highly preferred.
? Associates degree in Electronic Engineering Technology or a related field is desirable.
? High School diploma or equivalent is required.

Experience:
? With Some Education: Requires 3-5+ years experience in a technical/engineering environment with a bachelor's degree in a related technical field; 5-9 years experience with an associate's degree in a related field .
? Experience in Lieu of Education: Without additional post-high school education, 9-13+ years of directly related work experience in a technical/engineering environment is required.
? Microstation experience highly desirable

Position Overview:
The Telecommunications function provides engineering, design, and field support for BPA?s telecommunication facilities and associated equipment. This includes fiber optics, analog/mobile radio, digital radio, power line carrier, operational telephone, microwave towers and antennas, emergency AC/DC power and UPS systems, communications buildings, multiplex equipment, and monitoring systems including alarm system, Fault Locating Acquisition Reporter (FLAR), microwave monitor, wide area networks used for operational data and network management.

Telecommunications Engineering Technician tasks may include but not limited to assisting in the engineering, design, and implementation responsibility for assigned projects. Will provide engineering technician expertise in assisting project managers and other engineering personnel in implementing projects, supporting field maintenance crews, and other related engineering activities.

Using sound engineering practices and judgment, may perform all or any of the following tasls:
? Participates on teams to research and test telecommunication and related equipment.
? Assists in development of requirements for technical specifications for procurement of telecommunications systems and equipment, and provides technical support in the administration of material contracts and turnkey system contracts.
? Prepare detailed design, material, or procurement specifications for equipment, ensuring that technical tradeoffs have been considered, and that decisions conform to existing policies and standards and are within budgetary constraints.
? Prepare engineering designs or assist in developing engineering requirements for the development, installation and modification of BPA facilities.
? Provide technical support to construction, operations and maintenance personnel.
? Assist in procurement of electronic parts or materials and maintain inventory and related documentation.

Typical Work Activities may include any of the following:
? Read wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
? Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with manufacturers or field representatives as necessary to procure replacement parts.
? Test electronics units, using standard test equipment, and analyze results to evaluate performance and determine need for adjustment.
? Adjust or replace defective or improperly functioning circuitry or electronics components, using hand tools or soldering iron.
? Assemble, test, or maintain circuitry or electronic components, according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, or knowledge of electronics, using hand or power tools.
? Perform preventative maintenance or calibration of equipment or systems.
? Maintain system logs or manuals to document testing or operation of equipment.
? Provide customer support and education, working with users to identify needs, determine sources of problems, or to provide information on equipment use.
? Write reports or record data on testing techniques, laboratory equipment, or specifications to assist engineers.
