Sr. Systems Engineer

Responsibilities:
  • Work on standing up a new instance for notifications / escalations (xMatters), deployment around Application Performance Management and transition to a new platform, integrating into event management
  • Own overall day-to-day application monitoring tool operational and product support.
  • Perform high level assessment of business, functional, and technical requirements to address monitoring gaps and implementation of new monitoring products.
  • Clearly articulate project and delivery status to functional stakeholders and Enterprise Monitoring Team.
  • Act as a point of escalation for issues in the application monitoring space.
  • Create easily consumable data around application performance and availability to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Produce monthly metrics focused on application monitoring product spend, licenses, product consumption to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Drive standardization of monitoring toolsets.
  • Define event reference architecture for application monitoring in conjunction with our global command center.
 
Desired Skills and Experience
  • 5+ years of experience implementing and supporting application monitoring tools (e.g. New Relic, AppDynamics, Dynatrace).
  • Bachelors or Master's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science
  • Extensive experience using, supporting, and implementing Application Performance Management (e.g. New Relic) and Synthetic monitoring products.
  • Experience in integrating to event collector, correlation (e.g. BMC BPPM) and notification products (e.g. xMatters).
  • Knowledge and experience of both Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge and experience developing RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with delivery of solutions into a cloud environment.
  • Experience with delivery of solutions to a third party hosting provider or colo datacenter.
  • Knowledge of Project management concepts and ITIL service management framework would be a +
  • Basic general knowledge of networking, compute, load balancing and security technology and concepts
  • Proven ability to communicate with both technical / non-technical people from all levels of the organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment on multiple projects with independent deadlines and deliverables, and have a strong attention for detail.
  • Must be able to, when needed, work flexible hours to accommodate a global team.
  • Ability to understand and translate functional requirements into technical capabilities to drive product evaluations.
  • Advanced understanding of how monitoring, event management, and IT service management tie together within run operations.
  • Comfortable with presenting in front of senior management. Ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear, precise way.
