Primary Focus:
This role has two primary objectives: to develop new products and/or propositions that are not currently offered by DEB in the marketplace and maintain the health and welfare of our existing product line.
Its value is to increase margin, improve sales close rates, increase retention rates, expand market share and deliver differentiation for Direct Energy Business.
This is accomplished by creating commodity and energy-related products and propositions based on B2B customer segment needs and ensuring our existing product lines are optimized to continue to meet evolving customer needs / expectations.
 
This position works to:
Create and commercialize new products and propositions that are designed to differentiate Client Business across all small business customers.
Ensure operational capability for all new initiatives resulting in turnkey launch from ideation to implementation Maintain competitiveness of existing product line through continuous performance monitoring and implementation of changes to meet changing customers' needs / expectations or enhance attractiveness of the product / proposition as compared to the competitors.
Continuously monitor market developments and customer needs (through industry publications and primary Marketing Insights research) to develop long-term product strategies, while also executing on short-term deliverables.
Position is one of three product positions working to ensure DEB's products enable sales growth, meet customer needs, and deliver customer value through differentiation.
 
Accountabilities:
  • Specify product and proposition ideas and requirements by leveraging research and data analytics, engaging sales, conducting competitive intelligence, and initiating customer interactions.
  • Develop new product and proposition development plans and priorities based on customer insights, market intelligence and financial return Monetize financial impact of new propositions on existing sales efforts Develop business cases including KPI's, proforma, customer insights, and competitive intelligence.
  • Manage risks involved in product development by determining probability and impact of risks and developing strategies to mitigate those risks Maintain plans, targets, schedules and budget for new product and proposition development Project.
  • Manage new product and proposition development from ideation to commercialization Optimize the development and testing of all planned deliverables by working closely with operations, sales, and marketing stakeholders.
  • Communicate product plans, project updates, and product overviews to DEB senior management Build consensus and buy-in with key stakeholders Relationships: No direct reports.
  • Internal Contacts: Sales, Marketing, Regions, Finance, Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, Pricing, Product Development, Partner Marketing, Gas Operations and others External Contacts: Brokers, Consultants, Loyalty Program vendors, etc.
 
Skills & Qualifications:
 
  • BA or BS degree Teambuilding, networking and ability to communicate and drive results with people at all levels Demonstrated knowledge of the gas and/or electricity industry Product development experience an asset Proven project management experience and track record
  • At least 3-5 years of experience leading product or strategy development
  • Experience in working within large organizational structure
  • Good interpersonal skills, including establishing rapport with vendor/clients through regular contact by phone and in-person
  • Strong desire to succeed Detail oriented with strong organization and follow-through skills
  • Excellent ability to communicate, both verbal and written, with a wide variety of audiences both internal and external to the company
  • Strong critical thinking, financial and analytical skills
  • Proven experience in conflict resolution and effective negotiating skills
  • Able to work independently, comfortable making rational and reasonable decisions which directly or indirectly impact corporate margin, customer experience and financial liabilities Able to demonstrate experience in taking new initiatives from planning to implementation
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across functional areas to achieve business goals Ability to manage multiple project simultaneously
