Sr. Cost Reporting Analyst

 Description:
The Sr. Cost Reporting Analyst is expected to maintain a high level of accuracy and timeliness within the assigned function(s). The incumbent is responsible for preparing and submitting necessary reports on a routine basis. The Sr. Cost Reporting Analyst serves as the primary liaison to compiling/maintaining lists of participating facilities to the cost report process or serves as the secondary contact to audit requests handling most non-Medicare bad debt inquiries. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
• Generate, maintain and track audit listing progress; responding to audit requests by providing necessary documentation. 
• Engages in the preparation of required reports on a routine basis; ensuring data accuracy and integrity. 
• Administer the storage and archival processes for necessary reports within the assigned function(s). 
• Develop and implement cost reporting training procedures for the assigned function(s). 
• Serve as a secondary contact to internal and/or external auditors. 
• Coordinate with cross-divisional teams in the resolution of outstanding issues to ensure the achievement of goals and objectives. 
• Mentor other staff as applicable. 
• Assist with various projects as assigned by a direct supervisor. 
• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 
• Bachelor's Degree required; Advanced Degree desirable 

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS: 
• 5 – 8 years' related experience; or a Master's degree with 3 years' experience; or a PhD without experience. 
• Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or other professional financial certification required. 
• Demonstrated experience with auditing and/or cost reporting. 
• Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and email applications. 
• Strong technical knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), auditing and internal controls. 
• Detail oriented with strong analytical and organizational skills. 
• Self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision. 
• Strong time management skills with the ability to multitask concurrent priorities in an organized manner. 
• Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of management. 

FMS Corporate Cost Reporting Team - Medicare 
• Initiate preparation of Medicare cost reports as required. Cost reports are submitted on a yearly cycle, however, should a 
change of ownership or termination occur, these events trigger filings automatically. 
• Generate final cost report product utilizing HFS vendor software as required by Medicare. 
• Assemble all files necessary to a complete cost report submission including financial statements, cost report, Medicare bad 
debt listings, vendor files, etc. 
• Secure officer/administrator signatures on appropriate documents 
• Scan/archive copies of all files subject to submission 
• Copy files to disc/media and assemble with signed docs, then mail to the servicing Medicare Intermediary. 
• Acts as secondary contact with CMS contractor auditors for Medicare Bad Debt audits and desk reviews. 
• Coordinates audit responses with Internal Controls. The corporate analyst handles most expense related requests while 
Internal Controls pulls support for Medicare bad debt sampling. 
• Assist team with annual Medicare Cost Report preparation. 
• Reports to manager the status of audits and any documentation deficiencies. 
• Coordinate with other Cost Reporting Team analyst(s) as necessary. 
• Engage in cross-training of key responsibilities so that cost reports can be processed timely by others on the team as well. 
Cost report submission is time sensitive and withholding of Medicare payments results from late filings. 

FMS Corporate Cost Reporting Team - General 
• Compile and maintain lists of all participating Medicare certified dialysis clinics. Needs to be current on facility additions, 
deletions, and status changes. The "Facility/Intermediary List” contains critical information necessary to the cost report. 
Incorrect information could lead to cost report rejection and payment withhold. 
• Creates and maintains key report that identifies claimed Medicare secondary bad debt by clinic. As the results of cost report 
filings and claims are circulated to us by Internal Controls, the analyst updates the "NPR Log” for settlement data and the 
amount of Medicare bad debt that the clinic will receive. Each cost report is "settled” by the servicing intermediary. 
• Coordinates with Internal Controls to receive settlement paperwork and ensure that it is archived. 
• Updates the "Quickbooks” shared database module of key data that both Cost reporting and Internal Controls utilize. 
• Ability to step in as needed to generate final cost report product utilizing HFS vendor software as required by Medicare. 
• Assemble all files necessary to a complete cost report submission including financial statements, cost report, Medicare bad 
debt listings, vendor files, etc. 
• Secure officer/administrator signatures on appropriate documents 
• Scan/archive copies of all files subject to submission 
• Copy files to disc/media and assemble with signed docs, then mail to the servicing Medicare Intermediary. 
• Assist with annual Medicare Cost Report preparation. 
• Takes on projects and other tasks as required by the manager 
• Coordinates with other Cost Reporting Team analyst as necessary. 
• Engages in cross-training of key responsibilities so that cost reports can be processed timely by others on the team as well.
