Manager Must Have:
IN HOUSE EMPLOYMENT COUNSEL

COMPANY is seeking a dynamic employment attorney with deep expertise in employment counseling and litigation to join it's legal group.  Although the successful candidate will be part of an employment law team, s/he must be able to work closely and independently with internal clients on all aspects of employment law across the entire organization. 

This is a great opportunity to support and enable the transformation of the Molecular Solutions Human Resources team into an indispensable strategic business partner.    As a member of the fast-paced and exciting Molecular Solutions Law Department, this attorney will serve as a primary counselor to the HR team and business leadership across a highly matrixed regional and global organization. 

The individual will be responsible for understanding business initiatives and goals and operationalizing legal requirements into efficient and effective business processes to ensure compliance and foster an appropriate employee experience and culture.   The candidate also must be able to direct and manage the outside counsel who handle the company's employment litigation. 
 
Essential Job Functions:
  1. Supports and partners with the Chief Employment Counsel responsible for leading COMPANY'S employment matters in the U.S.
  2. Manages day-today legal matters employing considerable independent legal judgment, experience and analysis to determine appropriate legal responses and planning to meet business needs of a highly matrixed global organization.
  3. Provides day to day advice on a broad range of employment matters including staffing, performance management, employee relations, discrimination, harassment and other EEO matters, affirmative action plans, wage and hour, restrictive covenants, training programs, discipline and terminations and employment contracts.
  4. Help develop, implement and train on first-class employment policies and programs that appropriately balance legal risk with business impact.
  5. Establishes a rapport and working relationship with employees at all levels in order to act as a trusted advisor.
  6. Collaborates/interfaces with cross-functional partners, including regional and global teams, on complex projects to enhance employment law compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
  7. Partners with representatives of other departments, including human resources and compliance, on internal investigations
  8. Keeps the company's senior management informed of signifcant labor and employment decisions, legislation, and regulatory rulings that may affect the company's business or policies.
  9. Knowledgeable of related legislative, regulatory and judicial developments and trends that may impact the company and remains current with U.S. state and federal law and regulations applicable to employment matters.
  10. Provides general counseling and appropriate other legal service to all levels of the business on any legal issues having a basis in laws, rules or regulations of U.S. regulatory agencies
  11. Conducts employee, manager and human resourcs training
  12. Coordinates responses to charges from state and federeal agencies
  13. Manages outside counsel in employment litgiation matters
Job related experience:
•   At least eight years experience handling employment law matters in the U.S.
•   Relevant experience in a respected law firm and/or multinational corporation, preferably in both settings
•   Excellent knowledge of relevant California and federal employment laws and regulations, including Title VII, ADEA, FMLA, CFRA, FLSA etc.

•   Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written and a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain open, candid and trusting working relationships
•   Superior client relations and interpersonal skills, strong self-awareness and honed diplomacy skills
•   Strategic thinker with focus on practical and innovative client advice and the ability to advise on legal risks within a business context
•   Professional demeanor with ability and desire to interact at the executive level with persuasiveness and confidence
•   Demonstrated ability to work efficiently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to workfload fluctuations.                                                              
•   Litigation experience in the employment law arena
