Mechanical EngineerSite: Asheville, NCEstimated Duration of Need: May 21 – Nov 16 2018Significant Duties/ResponsibilitiesLead or participate in projects to evaluate product quality, cost, and throughput from Product Design Engineering and configure it for the production processDevelop project management processWork alongside other team members and with other cross-functional groups to develop electrical and mechanical systems and identify/implement projects for design optimization of the company’s laboratory products, including freezers, biological safety cabinets, shakers, incubators, and water systemsActively participate in product development cycle to optimize product productivityReview and approve Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s)Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for designs of new and existing products.Create Bills of Materials (BOM)Work with internal project team which consists of quality, regulatory, R&D, operations, supplier/sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, and salesDocument project progress and track future product development milestones & tasksUpdate management on a regular basis on project status. Identify what is falling behind and what assistance is needed from management to move process forwardPerform all job duties in a safe manner and obey all safety policies and proceduresPerform all job duties consistent with the Code of Ethics and the 4-I ValuesPerform all job duties within ISO standards, regulatory or statutory requirementsOther projects, tasks or special assignments could be assigned by the leadership teamDesired Required QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Materials Science or... Junior or Senior level mechanical engineering student at UNCA or other local collegeAbility to work effectively with people throughout the organization to produce necessary resultsManufacturing environment -- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of timeManufacturing environment -- Ability to sit for extended periods of time and utilize CRT/laptop to perform job functionsManufacturing environment -- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.Desired Qualifications and Experience:Experience in a technical manufacturing environmentExperience with regulated environment –including UL, CSA and FDAExposure to Design for Manufacture and Design for AssemblyDemonstrated understanding of Engineering Change Notices and Bills of MaterialsAbility to sit and talk with suppliers on the telephone or in person for extended periods of timeAbility to handle internal and external customer complaints in an effective and efficient mannerAbility work long hours under stressful conditions, closelyCertification as a PMP or Green BeltExposure to Design for Manufacture and Design for AssemblyRefrigeration manufacturing processes/technology and mechanical/equipment areas, and are skilled in statistical process control methods (DOE / capability analysis / tolerances)
