JOB DESCRIPTION: System Engineer III

The IT Operations team has responsibility for infrastructure/technical planning, implementation and support activities for systems owned by the Dignity Health IT Operations Team. Specific responsibilities include installing and supporting system hardware and software, performing system upgrades, and evaluating and installing patches and software updates. Responsibilities also include operational support activities such as resolving software and hardware related problems, managing backup and recovery activity, administering technology layers, managing monitoring and alerting functions, performing capacity planning and conducting version management. System Engineers work closely with architects, infrastructure support, database administrators and application support teams to ensure seamless and quality IT support for Dignity Health customers and alignment with Dignity Health’s IT standards, controls and governance.
To be successful, individuals must possess a combination of technical, business and leadership skills. This requires an understanding of customers’ business needs, processes, and functions. They also require a solid knowledge of IT infrastructure, architecture, applications development and support, networks, and computer operations. In addition, individuals working in this job family must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provides evaluation, engineering/design and implementation services for new products, technologies and solutions to address corporate business requirements. Provides escalation support to Tier 1 and 2 engineers.
• Demonstrates creativity and takes initiative in problem solving. Resolves or facilitates resolution of complex problems for assigned program.
• Has a thorough and comprehensive mastery of supported platforms/products and environments.
• Focuses the majority of time on complex engineering, architectural and implementation tasks.
• Project assignments are large in scope and are highly complex.
• Provide exceptional customer service to Dignity Health end users, Business Stakeholders and other members of Dignity Health IT.
• Perform daily production support activities.
• Participate in team on-call rotations.
• Perform patching and code deployments across all environments.
• Lead projects associated to the enhancement, upgrade/patching, or implementation of new or existing technology solutions.
• Coordinate implementation and support efforts between IT Operations and other Dignity Health IT teams.
• Provide oversight and facilitation of the Dignity Health IT change management process as it applies to the IT Operations team.
• Review, recommend and monitor the source code/versioning management function adhering to technical management guidelines.
• Provide technical leadership and ownership of issues across multiple disciplines and technologies.
• Conduct performance tuning and troubleshooting.
• Design, implement and maintain a comprehensive monitoring and alerting process across all IT Operations platforms.
• With oversight from the System Engineering Lead and Operations Manager(s), initiate and facilitate strategic planning activities (capacity planning, process improvement, maintenance, upgrade and end-of-life planning, roadmap development).
• Build new test and production environments on existing or new hardware as required.
• Identify automation opportunities and implement scripted solutions.
• Identify technical innovation and process improvement opportunities.
• Design and implement a comprehensive and ongoing release management and planning program.
• Utilize standard tools and methodology to develop system and support performance metrics.
• Demonstrate potential leadership qualities through team motivation, coaching, and mentoring.
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge & expertise with Dignity Health business processes and routines.
• Research and recommend appropriate System Administration best practices, and tools.
• Perform crisis management during high-severity operational incidents

QUALIFICATIONS:
General Qualifications
• BA or BS in Computer Science, Technology, or Business discipline or equivalent experience is required.
• 6-10 years of professional experience in an IT technical or infrastructure field is required.
• Established understanding of Infrastructure and relative technologies.
• Established understanding of network connectivity and protocols.

Design Engineer

• 8 + years’ experience with Windows Server operating systems is required.
• 8 + years experience with Windows Server operating systems is required including advanced troubleshooting skills.
• 6 + years experience proficiency with Microsoft troubleshooting technologies is required.
• 4 + years experience with complex Active Directory structures is required.
• 5 + years experience with complex Active Directory, VMWare, Citrix, Networking, DHCP/DNS
• MCITP Certification, VCP-DCV Certification or equivalent experience.
• Proven understanding of RAID levels and disk technologies.
• 5+ years’ experience with NAS and/or SAN Storage technologies.
• 4+ years’ experience with storage networking technologies.
• Experience with F5 hardware and load-balancing components.
• 4 + year experience with Server security and Network Security.
• Proven understanding of Infrastructure and relative technologies
• Proven understanding of network connectivity and protocols.
• Experience in an ITIL environment.
• Established understanding of storage related protocols (ISCSI, NFS, CIFS, and NDMP).
• Experience with Cisco Networks,F5 hardware and load-balancing
• Must be able to operate independently in the absence of strict guidance to correct issues and improve the environment.
• Experience with Visio and presentation of projects in a public forum

Messaging
• 7+ years’ experience with Windows Server operating systems is required.
• 6+ years’ experience in Exchange Support Operations, analysis and design in a large, multi-site IT organization.
• Messaging MCITP Certification or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years VMWare experience required.
• Proficient in PowerShell and/or VB Script.
• Extensive experience in a large enterprise operating environment supporting 10,000+ users.
• Experience with EMC, NetApp, or similar storage systems.
• Experience with load-balancing Exchange messaging components.
• Experience with F5 hardware and load-balancing Exchange messaging components.
• Experience in an ITIL environment.
• Experience with BlackBerry Enterprise Messaging/ActiveSync Support.
• Experience with 3rd party archiving, spam, filtering, secure messaging, fax and edge devices that directly proven knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS and WINS in a large enterprise organization link into Exchange.
• 2+ years’ experience with SQL server.
• 3+ years’ experience with Archiving Solution.
• Ability to develop and organize written documentation and procedures is required.
• Experience in troubleshooting server hardware problems.
• Experience with Windows 2008, 2012 and Active Directory.
• Knowledge of networking hardware infrastructure and principles.
Telecom
• 8 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience supporting large PBX and voice mail systems.
• 3 years of experience supporting IVR Technology Preferred.
• 3 years of experience supporting Cisco UC.
• Experience installing and supporting call accounting software platforms preferred.
• Telecom certifications (Nortel/Avaya, Cisco UC).
• Provide technical expertise for installation and maintenance of Telecom systems.
Storage
• Proven experience with communication and documentation applications necessary for operational support (MS Office, Exchange, Ticketing tools, device connectivity, Web interfaces, PowerPoint and Visio).
• Proven understanding of common operating systems Windows, Linux.
• Proven understanding of Infrastructure and relative technologies
• Proven understanding of network connectivity and protocols.
• Proven understanding of storage related protocols (ISCSI, NFS, CIFS, NDMP).
• Proven understanding of SAN and NAS storage infrastructures (Netapp and EMC preferred).
• Proven understanding of storage networking infrastructures (Brocade, Cisco).

Desktop Automation
• 5+ years’ experience with software packaging, Security Patching and deployment tools is required

• 5+ years of advanced experience with scripting languages is required in at least three of the following languages, (AutoIT, VBS, KIX, and or PowerShell)
