Ref No.: 18-05897
Location: La Jolla, California
Job Description: ** ASAP ROLE: - Please submit candidates to include their availability for possible interviews within the next week to two week time frame **

TOP SKILLS NEEDED:
• Execution of qPCR assays in 96w and/or 384w formats
• Isolation of high-quality DNA from viruses, cells and/or tissues.
• Development and optimization of robust qPCR assays to quantify viral or mammalian cell/tissue derived DNA/RNA.

We are seeking a Molecular Biologist experienced in the development, optimization and execution of qPCR assays to join the Molecular & Cellular Biology team. This scientist will work on these important analytical assays in support of early bioprocess development activities, with a significant focus on products associated with BSL2 viral vectors (including human pathogens). They will also contribute to preparation/extraction of DNA from diverse samples (virus, cell, tissues) for down-stream analysis in established qPCR assays. This is a laboratory based position – ideally full-time (40 hours/week), with some flexibility to accommodate a minimum of 30 hours/week.

The successful candidate will have sound knowledge and strong practical experience in qPCR assay execution, ideally with experience of assay development and method qualification. They will work closely with other experienced scientists in our matrix organization to understand assay requirements, follow protocols and accurately record experimental procedures and results.

Significant experience in two or more of the following areas is essential:
• Isolation of high-quality DNA from viruses, cells and/or tissues.
• Development and optimization of robust qPCR assays to quantify viral or mammalian cell derived DNA/RNA.
• Execution of qPCR assays in 96w and 384w formats, including data and statistical analysis using e.g. mathematical formulas in Microsoft Excel
• Working with BSL2 viral vectors and/ or human pathogens.

EXPERIMENTAL/LABORATORY & RELATED WORK (80-90%):
• After working with supervisor to understand experimental requirements and protocols, will execute experiments to address specific scientific objectives of the project
• Will work with moderate supervision (following agreement of objectives and timelines) in familiar areas, or close supervision in areas of significant novelty
• Will be responsible for analyzing experimental data, results, and providing preliminary interpretation of results based on methodology used.
• Will have and maintain skills and experience to be fully conversant with the operation and validation of all items of equipment or IT needed for experimentation, data analysis, storage and data entry.
• Will use the scientific and/or technical literature and electronic information to enhance understanding of technology area.
• Will prepare presentation materials for internal meetings.
