Job Description:

The System Administrator position is a Junior Linux administrator who is responsible for the deployment, operation, ongoing maintenance and technical support of web services and network infrastructure hosted in an external private cloud environment. This includes such tasks as developing and maintaining security, systems & network updates, troubleshooting, installation, design, and other tasks that are typical.

The System Administrator will possess a strong hands-on base of experience with Unix / Linux and managing services in a virtual cloud environment. Knowledge of database operations management, such as data replication, is also a key skill (e.g. SQL Server, MySQL).

The System Administrator is also responsible for notifying customers of scheduled maintenance and working with software engineers in preparing Root Cause Analysis when technical issues arise.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Perform daily operational / monitoring tasks for production and engineering environments (development, QA, performance)
• Perform application deployment to production systems
• Build out new environments as needed
• Install and update system software
• Apply OS and infrastructure patches / upgrades
• Maintain system operations documentation on Wiki
• Identify potential issues and resolve in timely manner
• Produce operational reports
• Facilitate performance benchmark tests
• Help maintain a strong security posture with audit readiness

Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience working in a System Administration role
• Experience with Unix / Linux systems
• Experience with Internet technologies such as Apache, Java Application Servers, and Databases (MySQL, PostGres, MS SQL Server)
• Knowledge of Tomcat, Apache, CentOS, PERL, Bash
• Demonstrated professional experience managing virtual environments on public or private cloud platform
• Familiarity with SMTP, DNS, DHCP, NFS, SSH, RDP, Telnet
• Familiarity with network hardware such as switches, routers, load balancers, firewalls
• Ability to document processes and technical knowledge
• Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
• Motivated self starter that excels in a dynamic, fast-paced environment requiring only limited supervision
• Ability to solve complex tasks quickly, troubleshoot issues cleanly and completely, and to handle/prioritize multiple tasks/responsibilities concurrently
• Willing to support systems 24x7 (very little after hours support required)
• Willingness to contribute in areas within Engineering beyond system administration as time allows, such as Application Technical Support and Quality Assurance tasks

Desired Qualifications:
• Knowledge of OpenStack cloud platform
