This position has 3 direct reports today and could have more in the future. Direct Reports: EWM Development Lead, ABAP Developer, ABAP Developer.

The Director of Applications & Development is a strategic business systems visionary and integrator, responsible for development and ongoing support of company Applications. Through team leadership and technical expertise, responsibilities include working closely with business partners to identify, prioritize, and define solutions. S/he will lead internal software development initiatives as well as the selection/integration of third party technology for Applications & Development. This includes the creation, maintenance and delivery of release schedules for all new development and systems upgrades. Additionally, he/she will coordinate the acceptance, approval and prioritization of development project requests, as well as existing system change requirements.
The Director of Applications& Development will work closely with decision makers across the business to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization. Utilize your extensive knowledge base and experience in implementing functionality in this hands-on leadership role, where you will be the resident expert in the system.
Strategy & Planning
  • Formulate and deploy short and long-term strategic direction and roadmap for with the IT management team, and by collaborating with the business to understand current and future needs and direction
  • Maintains strong business relationships and works collaboratively with all business unit leaders, ensuring alignment between business objectives and systems priorities.
  • Manage Applications operational and strategic planning, including business requirements, project planning, organizing and negotiating the allocation of resources.
Operational Management
  • Directs and drives the team (internal and external) to deliver solutions that are well architected, well documented, well tested and meet Industry Best Practices
  • Scope of responsibility includes supporting various functional areas, including: sales & marketing, service, operations, customer relationship management, finance, human resource information systems, company website and others.
  • Provides coaching, mentoring, and leadership to the team. Develop and grows the existing Applications & Development organization into a highly functioning, efficient, and effective team.
  • Identify departmental priorities and deploy resources to best meet the company needs, taking responsibility for team deliverables, and assisting in the overall planning and implementation of program of work
  • Determine and manage short- and long-term priorities, goals, results, and objectives. Work closely with the business to communicate resource allocation and prioritization of business needs. Identifies need and justification for resources to continue to support business objectives.
  • Hands on role which will include responsibility for managing project schedules, technical risks, problem solving, issues management and milestone tracking
  • Supports actions to ensure innovation and competitiveness in terms of products, services, technologies, processes, etc.
  • Analyze business changes that affect current systems solutions. Lead system analysts to design appropriate enhancements to support such changes. Responsibilities include estimating scope and cost of effort, working with business relationship managers to assign priorities, assigning resources, tracking progress to completion, managing testing and quality, planning for transition to production status.
  • Establish and maintain regular in-person and written communications with the organization's executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities.
  • Manages the Applications & Development budget and results based on the business plan defined.
  • Oversee negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
  • Grow and develop individuals and the team, ensuring the attraction, development and retention of top talent.
  • Ensures Applications development processes comply with Sarbanes-Oxley, as well as other regulatory and business requirements.
  • Have and maintain a detailed overall knowledge of SAP systems, its specific capabilities and functions, system architecture, and required technical infrastructure for a retail enterprise.

Knowledge & Experience
  • 5 years relevant professional IT experience
  • 5 Years as at senior management level – experience of leading a team of Project Managers, Analysts, Developers and Architects.
  • An effective leader and mentor, capable of building the function to meet the business needs for IT support; with experience managing internal and external resources and projects
  • Significant implementation experience of new functionality in.
  • Capable of establishing excellent relationships with the business unit managers, utilizing business case development skills to establish priorities.
  • Effective negotiating skills.
  • Experience in process management, governance and IT methodologies.
  • Track record in leading the successful development of in-house, out-sourced and blended solutions in a structured project management environment.
  • Proven understanding of relevant IT best practice methods
