Animal Husbandry

A husbandry technician position is available within Boston Biomedical’s Laboratories. The primary responsibilities of an employee in this position will be to assist with the administration of in vivo studies and in the caretaking of the study animals.
The candidate will be expected to work effectively with colleagues, be self-motivated, and have excellent communication skills. Candidate should be aware of standard laboratory techniques, and preferably has practical experience with these techniques. The candidate should have excellent attention to detail. Responsibilities include:
Vivarium duties
Receive animal shipments (mice, rats)
Weigh, house animals
Maintain animal inventory log
Feed and water animals in accordance with prescribed diets and instructions
Observe health of animals (notify proper personnel of irregularities)
Monitor breeding cages, separate mating pairs, wean pups
Change cages, wash cages, sterilize cages and assemble cages
Log in appropriate log - use of equipment (washer, sterilizer)
Monitor proper operation of facility equipment
Maintain cleanliness of facility
Sweep mop and disinfect facility
Remove animal and general waste from vivarium
Clean biosafety cabinets
Order, receive and store supplies of vivarium
Periodic breakdown
Daily

Log use of equipment in appropriate log
Monitor proper functioning of facility equipment
Maintain cleanliness of facility

This is an entry level position. No prior degree or experience is required, though some prior lab experience is strongly preferred. Must be able to safely and regularly lift 50 lbs. Also must be willing to work occasional company holiday if needed.
