 Manufacturing Engineer Manager - Direct Hire
This position is responsible for assisting in the preparation of data used in establishing operating standards for manufacturing processes. This includes developing manufacturing plans for new contracts, leading testing and modeling to establish new processes; assisting in optimizing processes and troubleshooting issues as necessary; maintaining appropriate documentation; supporting team members and ensuring that established goals and deadlines are met; keeping superiors informed of significant issues; and aligning with our value of safety.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Managing manufacturing engineering department
    • Leading manufacturing engineering team including: setting short and long term goals for the department; Coaching, mentoring, developing manufacturing engineers; performance management of manufacturing engineers; developing department policies and procedures and ensuring they are in alignment with company objectives; managing all Wabtec Performance System activities and participating on corporate initiatives/teams.
    • Partner with engineering and operations to ensure both internal and external customers' needs are being met.
  • Proactively communicating with organization on manufacturing initiatives
    • Complete Value Stream Map for MotivePower's business process model to include current state, future state and action plans to resolve process gaps.
    • Identify, document and develop solutions to capabilities and limitations of processes.
    • Develop and assist in implementing manufacturing plans in addition to maintaining and enhancing current plans to ensure achievability.
    • Mentor and train employees on lean processes and tools.
  • Other Manufacturing Engineer responsibilities:
    • Maintain and control internal Red Tag Process.
    • Facilitate the closure of newspaper items post Kaizen.
    • Assist in determining load leveling of process steps and manage operation kit definition.
    • Identify and design tooling and fixtures for projects.
Experience:
  • BS degree in engineering or related field with at least 8 years of related experience and at least 3 years managerial experience.  
  • Experience Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, 5S, Statistical Engineering, Lean Thinking Principles, Total Productive Maintenance, Problem Solving and other performance improving tools are essential.
  • Extensive experience developing and sustaining a Lean culture.
  • Extensive manufacturing background with precision machining, fabrication, molding, casing and assembly.
  • Proven financial ability to understand, prepare, present and effectively modify financial business plans, especially capital expenditure selection and justification.
  • Must possess strong analytical capability along with problem-solving skills. Strong leadership skills with strategic thinking are required. Must have the ability to build successful working relationships with multiple working groups. Strong communications skills are required.
