Posting Summary:
  • Domain Driven Design Architect – responsible for strategy, governance, POC sponsorship (including execution and coding), and project reviews across the entire Application estate
  • Analysis and evaluation of current-state and next-generation applications and capabilities, technologies, frameworks, and associated technology and vendors
  • Engaging with business and architecture leads on business/technology transformation goals, drive the target application architecture and application estate, factoring in overall target-state enterprise architecture
  • Specify, scope, and guide project implementations to ensure alignment to business and technology goals
  • Participate in governance bodies to approve changes to application estate and significant design/code review
  • Drive the development of actionable architecture, technology strategies and technology solutions & patterns for business units. Facilitate implementation of architecture, in line with agreed standards, policies and design patterns.
  • Partner with wider Operations and Technology (O&T) community to deliver technology solutions, patterns and code-level blueprints.
  • Research relevant technologies and demonstrate their benefits by developing POCs where necessary.
  • Provide stewardship at critical junctures during implementation, ensure preservation of design intent in code and lead architectural code reviews.
  • Provide thought leadership and drive technology innovation.
Key Accountabilities and Skills required:

Architecture - Development & Implementation (up to 70%)
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant technologies at the core/internals levels in order to act competently in Subject Matter Expert role
  • Articulate and establish best practices and anti-patterns in application of technologies in question
  • Partner with Lead Engineers, Architects and broadly colleagues within O&T community to coordinate strategies and technology investment recommendations
  • Develop and communicate technology choices and core patterns in their application
  • Conduct briefings for leadership at all levels and colleagues as appropriate
  • Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with open-source and commercial vendors, consultants/SIs and other relevant 3rd parties
Advice and Guidance (up to 20%)
  • Investigate specific technologies, conduct technical briefings and recommend next steps to O&T leadership at all levels and colleagues as appropriate. Lead POC development demonstrating key benefits of proposed technology.
  • Establish, maintain and enhance relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. business, technology & project leaders), peers and broader architecture community
  • Contribute to broader architecture activities by participating in peer reviews with colleagues in BC solution design community
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and some informal task based supervision of junior engineering and architecture staff
Solutions Alignment (Minimum 25%)
  • Adding clarity and ensuring architectural alignment for proposed solutions; ensure high quality solutions are created which maximise reuse, minimise duplication and support Global Platform vision
  • Deliver to strategic objectives rather than just responding to a stream of feature requests
  • Work with project teams and Global Sourcing colleagues to advise on technology and supplier options to ensure that solutions access best in market services and products aligned to architectural vendor selection principles
  • Support portfolio delivery teams to ensure solutions adhere to architectural/technology strategy, standards and policies
Your Skills and Qualifications will include
Educational, Professional & Technical Qualifications
  • Generally expected to have attained a 4-year/B. Sc. Degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering). Other levels of educational attainment or degree specialization are acceptable with at least 10-15 years of relevant experience
  • 10-20 years of experience across one or more of the core disciplines – Software, Database, Systems, Network Engineering
  • Working knowledge of core concepts in Distributed Systems design, CAP theorem & corollaries, Enterprise Integration Patterns, EDA/SOA 2.0, Microservices-based architectures and Domain-Driven Design
  • Strong grounding either in (preferred) enterprise-level software engineering (Java, C++, Scala), or in-depth, knowledge of Database and OS internals as core technical competency
  • Understanding of key considerations in Secure systems & software design, Resilience and High-Availability patterns for mission-critical applications, including multi-data-centre deployments
  • Experience driving and delivering architectural change in medium to large enterprises

  • Understand the needs and challenges of stakeholders involved in projects, and negotiate satisfactory resolution to issues surrounding technology investment decisions and design direction

Control (including Governance & Risk):
  • Adhere to Policies & Standards appropriate to the role - outlined in the Code of Conduct and mandatory training. Will also be required to ensure that all risks identified are managed as per Risk Framework procedures, ensure risk events (incidents) and control failures are investigated, reported, fixed and/or escalated to prevent reoccurrence. In instances where role holder is an owner of a key control, they will be required to provide supporting records to demonstrate regular review and maintenance.
