Job Summary/Basic Function
  • Work closely with the software development organization to create technical end-user documentation such as user guides, installation guides, administration manuals, online help systems, release notes, and technical notes.
  • Explain complex information such as installation procedures, enhancements, features, and functionality in a clear and concise manner based on installing and using products, as well as working with technical staff to gain an understanding of the products.
  • Participate in every level of design, authoring, production, and review of end-user software documentation.
  • Must be able to install and use software products developed by the software organization in order to document usage, workflows, and take screen captures in an independent manner. 
Additional Job Details
Education & Experience
  • Bachelors in English, Communications, or another relevant field.
  • 3+ years of Technical Writing experience in a software technology environment. Proven experience working in a technical writing position.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office. Strong attention to detail.
  • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences.
  • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking. 
Problem Solving
  • Ability to prioritize and perform work with general direction and guidance.
  • Ability to install, traverse, and understand user workflows with minimal assistance. 
  • Key communications contacts (internal/external) and level of persuasion required Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work closely with internal and external customers to translate complex technical solutions and descriptions into simple, straight-forward, user-friendly documentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to foster teamwork.

  • 80% - Documentation Activities:
  • Author, produce, and review end-user documentation which may include online help, user manuals, technical illustrations and diagrams, installation guides, upgrade guides, and release notes.
  • Actively participate as a team member to estimate, plan, and execute documentation tasks.
  • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of content and standardization of style.
  • Manage updates and revisions to documentation.
  • 15% - Collaboration, Coordination and Training:
  • Research and interpret technical information from subject-matter experts (Product Management,
  • Development, and QA), including: specifications, meetings, and hands on use of software applications to create effective user documentation.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Development, QA, and Support teams to ensure delivered documentation content, structure, and style meet customer needs.
  • Actively seek review and input to ensure quality documentation and that delivered documentation content, structure, and style meet customer needs.
  • Learn and use software products in order to document usage and capture relevant information such as screen-shots for documentation purposes.  
5% - 5% Process and Quality
  • Demonstrate understanding and adherence to the software development process.
  • Actively engage in process improvements, quality initiatives, and execution of established processes.
  • Identify and assist in the management of third-party software pertaining to documentation.
