  • Physical Strength Code Processes accounting work by creating and posting journal entries to general ledger based on supporting documentation, preparing tax reports, reconciling bank statements, compiling financial statements, and approving requisitions.
  • Assists in analysis and problem solving by reconciling the general ledger, reviewing and developing accounting and internal control policies, performing petty cash audits, assisting in special projects, performing budget analysis and providing recommendations.
  • Monitors proper use of accounting expenditures and takes part in requisition approval process and purchase orders.
  • Participates in the preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and year end closing process by reconciling revenues and balances, preparing year end reclassification journal entries, and preparing audit schedules.
  • Assists with audits of client departments, functions, programs or activities and firms doing business with the client, including performance, compliance, contracts and financial audits.
  • Assists with project management: provides expertise to coordinate and implement division or clientwide systems and projects; program/system evaluation and organizational analysis; monitoring of procedures and methods.
Experience Required:
  • A minimum of two years of experience as an accountant, preferably in a municipal or government setting.
  • Work requires the ability to read grant documents, manuals, legal and professional papers, financial statements, vendor invoices, and general ledger reports.
  • Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division as well as business math. Work requires the ability to write memos, reports, email document procedures and prepare recommendations of procedural changes.
  • Planning responsibilities include timetable for grants administration that includes procedural adherence, fiscal reporting deadlines and methods, preparing for audit reviews, and coordinating with employees and the grants coordinator.
  • The Accountant prepares documents and does research to justify language used in documents for department units and may recommend budget allocations.
  • Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
  • Work requires analysis and judgment in accomplishing diversified duties.
  • Work also requires critical and independent thinking within the limits of policies, standards, and precedents.
  • The incumbent contacts others within the organization.
  • These contacts may involve similar work units or departments within the client which may be involved in decision making or providing approval or decision making authority for purchases or projects.
  • In addition, the Accountant works with individuals outside the client who may belong to professional or peer organizations.
  • Working with various state and federal agencies may also be required of the Accountant.
  • Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies or products.
  • Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, brokers and sales representatives.
  • Employee must maintain regular attendance.
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Education Required:
  • Associate's Degree in Accounting or closely related field. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities, may be considered as qualifying.
