MainFrame Specialist, Quality Control

Job Description:
  • Test software applications and systems to ensure they work correctly and conform to the business and technical specifications

Top Skills:
  • Technical background in software development or testing on a MainFrame Client MCP environment
  • Ability to read documentation and learn how a software application works
  • Understanding of computer concepts such as networking and data formatting/storage
  • Familiar with DB tools such as DB2, SQL, Oracle, or DMS
  • User level skills with PC
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • User level skills with MS Office products ( word, excel, powerpoint)
  • Attention to detail, ability to prioritize and see projects through to completion
  • Must have a professional demeanor and be able to effectively work with staff at all levels within the organization
Principal Responsibilities:
Testing:
  • Review application documentation and technical specifications to determine how a software application/system should function
  • Able to plan an overall approach and schedule on how to test small and mid-sized applications.
  • Would be asked to participate in planning efforts for large / complex applications.
  • Develop test cases and scripts to prove the application functions as expected – for both positive and negative scenarios.
  • Able to create or identify the data and test parameters to execute the test scripts defined for the testing effort.
  • Execute the test cases and record the results, including setup of system operations commands, test scripting procedures ( JCL, WFL, .Bat). If errors / defects are found, work with the application development team to resolve the issue.
  • Become proficient in the testing tools – including MicroFocus ALM /Quality Center
  • Review production application failures and update the testing scripts with the goal of preventing future production failures.
Departmental Activities:
  • Complete work as assigned, reporting status and issues to management.
  • Participate in project team meetings, department meetings, status reporting, time tracking, estimating, and issue resolution efforts.
  • Assist team members through cross training on applications and systems.
  • Assist in support of application issues at the request of Operations and Development.
  • This includes evening and weekend support.
