Position Description

Location: 100% Remote. Multiple end clients that are based on Georgia, Kansas, and Virginia. Preferably will need to work near one of the end client locations (same or neighboring state).

Duration: Long term

The Unix/Linux Systems Administrator supports and maintains Unix/Linux servers. This includes planning for and this includes the operating systems and hardware available from several vendors (IBM AIX, Solaris, Red Hat, Suse, CentOS etc).
The Unix/Linux Systems Administrator responds to service outages and other problems, and being the Tier 3 escalation point for server problems beyond the knowledge of other technical support staff. They have the ability to work in moderately complex operating environments. This person may also mentor junior technical team members.

System Management –Responsible for the day to day support of computer systems running the Unix/Linux operating system. These may be stand-alone or networked and may exist in homogenous or heterogeneous environments. Some of these tasks are:
· Monitoring system performance or event logs for normal operations
· Overseeing appropriate level software installations and upgrades and related software packages.
· Evaluating and applying system and security patches to ensure the security and stability of the environment.
· Overseeing and implementing/recommending configuration and performance tuning, both hardware and software to ensure an improvement in system reliability and performance.
· Developing and maintaining appropriate system documentation to ensure that documentation is current.
· Manage 3-Tier environments that includes, Dev, QA, and Prod.
· ITIL based service delivery for Incident Management, Change Management, Problem Management, Capacity Management, Configuration Management
· Operating system Patching
· Operating system Upgrade / Migration
· Virtualization Strategies

Through knowledge and working experience with the multiple major vendor specific Unix/Linux operating system including:
· Installation, Patching, Migration, Security, Networking, System Internals, Printing, Clustering, Management Tools, Scripting, Performance TuningE
· Experience working in a medium or larger data center supporting Physical and Virtual Unix/Linux systems
· Knowledge of related products (storage, database, communications etc)
· Collaborates well with customers and other technical teams
· Knowledge of standard networking ports and protocols
· Experience with patch management solutions
Strong knowledge of IT Service Management terms and processes
