Job Description:
  • The Server Patching Administrator (Engineer) will be responsible for Client/Server OS patch deployment as well as patching standards and process to maintain server health across the enterprise environment.
  • The selected candidate will interface with the Security, Application, Infrastructure and ITSM teams to coordinate Windows patching deployments.
  • They will create and maintain operational procedures as needed to ensure patching success rates and will be the main point of communication for security patching.
  • Additionally, the candidate will interface with customers and management to conduct reviews and provide reporting on patching status and any trends seen to help improve the health of the environment.  
Job Purpose
  • The Administrator will be responsible for overseeing, tracking, and scheduling all server patching efforts for a large scale enterprise environment.
  • They will run and maintain System Center Configuration Manager and responsibilities will include the design, deployment, and troubleshooting of SCCM.
  • The candidate will analyze trends to identify potential patching errors in all OS environments and will work with respective teams to ensure those errors do not re-occur in future patching cycles.
  • This critical role will help secure the infrastructure from medium to critical security threats as well manage enterprise images and driver packages.
  • The patching administrator will also maintain and update all patching maintenance windows with the business  
    Basic qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager and WSUS in a multi-site, enterprise environment.
  • Min 5-7 years Information Technology or Engineering or information Systems, or related work experience.
  • Minimum 10+ years of systems engineering/administration experience in Microsoft Windows Operating Systems
  • Ability to communicate technical issues and translate into non-technical business reviews.
  • Ability to work from Englewood Cliffs, NJ location or Universal City 
Daily Responsibilities:
  • Implements and maintain "Best in Class" approaches/practices for enterprise patch management and deployment.
  • Works with and manages cross functional teams to identify operational procedures and best practices in accordance with patch management strategy.
  • Ensures overall service levels for server uptimes through patch management standards, enterprise images and driver packages.
  • Employs continual service improvement though monthly and quarterly patch management metrics reviews.
  • Analyzes trend data to identify potential patch related issues on various images and assists teams in troubleshooting to implement any resolutions/improvements needed for proactive resolution.
  • Communicates patch management process and procedures, working practices, and changes to internal teams and customers.
  • Updates and maintains enterprise patch maintenance windows with the business.
  • Develops automation scripts and programs to streamline manual patch operations and improve mean time to deliver and first time right metrics.
  • Provides technical support and consultation to teams and customers as needed.
  • Performs architecture review, infrastructure design and builds, and maintenance and support activities for system center configuration management (SCCM) and WSUS patching systems.
  • Coordinate monthly Windows patching deployments as well as scheduled Linux/Unix deployments.
  • Attends high severity change patch maintenance windows and assists in documenting completion of the change.
  • Defines and assesses patching service levels and success rates.
  • Maintains ticket queues for new patching or change requests
  • Supports the determination of patches needed as well as implementation of corrective actions.
  • Applies Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework knowledge.
  • Escalates issues for resolution to appropriate teams when necessary.
  • Runs compliancy and server health reports as needed.
  • Deep knowledge of SCCM 2012 R2+ for the following items.
  • Enterprise Client Deployment.
  • Software Delivery / Application Packaging.
  • Patch Management.
  • Windows Deployment Services / Computer Imaging.
  • Task Sequences.
  • Hardware/Software Inventory and Reporting.
  • Good knowledge of group polices, PowerShell, and windows administration tools in general.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory. 
Required Skills and Experience: 
  • 2+ years’ experience working in a SCCM Configuration/Administrator, Systems Engineer or equivalent role.
  • Proficiency with Configuration Manager (SCCM): Application Deployment, OSD, Compliance, Software Updates, Reporting and Administration is required.
  • Experience with Orchestrator is preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with other System Center Suite applications is preferred.
  • 2+ years’ experience with SCCM/Configuration Manager and SCOM is required.
  • 3+ years’ experience supporting Microsoft Server products is required.
  • 2+ years’ experience and a proficiency with PowerShell is required. Expert level ability to write scripts is required.
  • 2+ years' of with experience Office 365, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy is required.
  • General experience with the following technologies: Azure, Bomgar, Group ID, external DNS (websites), DMZ is preferred.
  • Knowledge of C#, VB, C++ or other scripting languages is preferred. 
Additional Skills:

  • Working experience with security and network/distributed computing concepts.
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator/Engineer (MCSA or MSCE).
  • Working experience in server architecture and NAS/SAN infrastructure.
  • ITIL Certification.
