Rare opportunity for a DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING with a premiere architectural design firm in the greater Cincinnati area.

As Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for using your strong business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit to ensure the success of our operations, talent, finance, marketing design, design and legal departments.  You will lead the (MEP) department and report directly to the COO of the company.  The Director of Engineering will provide clear leadership, vision, and strategic direction to the in-house team of Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical Engineers, Project Managers and Designers.

The Director of Engineering will be the "go-to" thought leader of the company and maintain a focus on delivering profitable architectural engineering projects for a wide array of project types and sizes nationwide.

BREAKDOWN OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 
  Operations:
  1. Provide leadership of architectural engineering projects to ensure that utilization, schedule, and budget/profitability targets are being met
  2. Effectively lead your MEP team and encourage quality, coordination, and profitability
  3. Provide proactive workload management and allocation of resources
  4. Quickly begin to engage and build relationships with existing clients and suggest improvements for relationship and scope
  5. Provide recommendations to improve efficiency and/or quality of the engineering services provided
  6. Act as a liaison both internally and externally for engineering services by collaborating with the Architectural Directors, Project Managers, clientele, consultants, and vendors 
Talent:
  1. Determine staffing needs for the Engineering department and individual projects based on the current and projected workload
  2. Participate in the interviewing and selection of prospective candidates and provide clear performance expectations and management/reviews to your team
  3. Lead by example and foster a continuous learning culture by encouraging communication and the sharing of ideas and technical knowledge through mentoring, in-house presentation, continuing education opportunities, etc.
  4. Act as a the company ambassador and enthusiastically motivate and mentor for professional development and licensure 
Finance:
  1. Work with C-Level and Marketing/Business Development teams to develop an annual business plan to advance the firm's mission, growth, and branding of the engineering services
  2. Responsible for meeting projected revenue goals
  3. Report and present the financial health of your assigned team monthly
Marketing:
  1. Leverage our Business Development team on new business development efforts where the engineering services can be utilized
  2. Build, strengthen and nurture relationships with new and existing clients with the goal of creating long-term partnerships and repeat business
  3. Promote the brand and market expertise by serving as a thought leader in the industry and internally through involvement in speaking engagements, professional organizations, white paper creation, etc.
Design:
  1. Encourage uniformly high design and production standards and monitors projects to ensure that quality and production standards are met for all design and contract documents 
Legal:
  1. Manage risk with effective contract expectations with client and consultants
  2. Manage risk relative to quality control
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR…
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Architectural Engineering or Civil Engineering (Structural Emphasis) or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited program. Master's Degree in Engineering is preferred.
  2. Active licensure as a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Ohio, Colorado, Texas or Washington is required
  3. Strong leadership skills with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the design, documentation, and management of architecture/engineering projects and staff resources
  4. Experience working on retail, hotel, grocery projects is ideal
  5. Capabilities with AutoCAD and Revit production software
  6. Comprehensive understanding of the collaborative inter-relationships between architecture and engineering disciplines, clients, and contractors
  7. Collaborative champion of client relationships and team management with ability to quickly build trust
  8. Experience with business development is highly desired
  9. Dynamic communicator to both internal and client stakeholders while influencing and inspiring others
  10. Reputation as an expert in the industry and active in professional/industry associations is preferred
  11. Ability to travel as needed
