Job Description:
  • The Sr. Engineer will be expected to be the lead SME of DevOps for our Converged Infrastructure (CI) environment and take on the design & engineering of the DevOps tool chain including the development of documentation. This individual will be responsible for automating infrastructure tasks and applications utilizing Puppet, Chef or Salt. As Senior System Engineer DevOps, you should also be familiar with utilizing scripting languages such as Python or Ruby.
  • The CI project requires working with multiple project teams and partners to design solutions, components and interfaces to help drive to an automated virtualize/cloud like environment. Once the solutions are designed & engineered to suit requirements you would be accountable for guiding the implementation and adoption of the solution. Providing engineering level support escalation, for the solutions during deployment.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with the design and engineering of automating infrastructure tasks and applications in a large environment and installation, configuration and functional testing of third party products; requires very good understanding of virtualization, storage, database, and networking technologies.
  • NOTE: This is a senior hands-on engineering role
  • Additionally, the Senior Systems Engineer requires the following skills and experience to fulfill the responsibilities:
Must Haves
  • Experience with systems automation and configuration management (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Salt, CFEngine)
  • Knowledge of DevOps principles and practice
  • 5-7+ years of Unix System's Engineering/Admin (RedHat Linux, AiX, and Solaris) experience.
  • Experience in a high-volume or critical production service environment.
  • Deep understanding of Unix Fundamentals as well as OS commands/utilities.
  • Programming ability with at least one of the following: perl, python, php, or ruby AND a shell language (bash, korn, etc )
  • Knowledge of operational and security best practices.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and trending systems - i.e. nagios, graphite, statsd
  • Knowledge of Cisco UCS server and NetApp FAS storage hardware, and its deployment in a large server environment, NFS, CIFS, ISCSI protocols
  • Self motivated with a STRONG sense of ownership, urgency and drive
  • Ability to work as part of team on tasks, and projects with minimum supervision
  • Familiarity with cloud environment (vCAC, AWS, EC2, OpenStack, RackSpace, etc.)
  • RedHat or VCP certifications are strongly preferred
Working knowledge of the following
  • VMWare vShpere 5+
  • Hands on networking experience with switches, routers, and load balancers, as well as, an understanding of TCP/IP and network architecture/routing
  • Windows Server 2008+
  • Orchestration toolsets
  • Familiar with software packaging and code deployment.
  • Strong user of Open Source Software (OSS)
Minimum Qualifications for Grade
