Solaris Administrator Job Description


Responsibilities:
SA Engineering
•Engineering of systems administration-related solutions for various project and operational needs.
•Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
•Install and configure systems which support infrastructure and/or R&D activities.
•Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
•Contribute to and maintain system standards.
•Research and recommend innovative, and where possible, automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage resources.

Operations and Support
  • Sound Knowledge in Solaris 9/10 Operating system.
  • Able to handle most of basic to advanced calls in User, group management, system start-up, service modification, crontab entries, ACL modifications, file system management, root & ignite backups.
  • Experience in Server Management, Backup, with the help of the tool provided. Any proactive monitoring tools i.e. open view, Tivoli, Big-brother, Data Protector Etc will be added Advantage.
  • Should have used any backup management software i.e.TSM, VERITAS, etc.
  • Working Knowledge of SUN /VERITAS cluster.
  • Should have working knowledge in performance tuning, clustering etc.
  • Should have used any proactive monitoring tools
  • Interpersonal sensitivity and customer responsiveness with good spoken and written communication skills, team working skills & require shift operations.
  • Ability to communicate technical contents and vendor management
  • Able to co-ordinate installation & Configuration of HPUX Operating system with Hardware vendors.
  • Good process knowledge in call login, tracking, closure procedures. Knowledge of ITSM processes
  • Should have basic understanding of any storage technologies
  • Adhere to SLA response and resolution times and ensure cases are regularly updated.
  • Escalation of problems in a timely manner as per the escalation matrix.
  • Experience in managing the team size of 6 to 8.
  • Capable of handling over all DC operations.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree, with a technical major, such as engineering or computer science, preferred
  • Solaris System Administrators – 8-10 Years of Experience
  • Minimum 8-10 years of relevant working experience and at least 5- 6yrs in supporting customer on system administration area.
  • Preferred Certification in SOLARIS.
  • Proven ability to multi-task.
  • Independent, self-starter.
  • Flexible to work on Weekend support for Changes Management and Severity incidents
  • Work in offshore and onsite model
