Position Description Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position develops financial reports and analytical reporting systems to aid accounting, budgeting, and business reporting for the Business Office of the Community Colleges of Spokane. The Financial Reporting Analyst will: create and maintain financial databases and necessary reporting tools; perform data analysis and write reports from the financial, student, and payroll systems; and prepare organizational and district budgets, by using data to create revenue and expenditure projections, developing business processes, preparing regular and ad hoc reports, and conducting research and analysis. 8-4:30 M-F or as determined between employee and the CCS CFO $22.00 - $25.00/hour or as determined Up to 12 months
Skills Required 1. Under direction of the Chief Financial Officer, responsible for internal Business Office reporting, dashboard maintenance, ad hoc reports and analysis to meet internal and external financial reporting requirements. * 2. Assist administrators and appropriate staff in translating requirements into reporting deliverables. * 3. Develop performance metrics and financial dashboards to ensure consistency with district planning, reporting and budget allocation processes and ensure proper utilization of resources and funds. * 4. Assist in the monitoring and review of computer input/output for system transaction and process integrity. * 5. Work closely with Institutional Research and Information Technology to develop reporting database for financial reporting needs. * 6. Assist accounting personnel with reports necessary for compliance reporting. * 7. Maintain communication with other organizational budget and fiscal analysts and the Budget Director to ensure alignment of organizational financial reporting activities with institutional goals and district-wide policies, administrative procedures, or business processes. * 8. Identify potential efficiencies or economies of scale or potential or actual problems to the appropriate manager, with suggestions for resolving issues or implementing improved processes or controls to enhance organizational effectiveness and improve data quality. * 9. Assist in other areas within the business office as requested. 10. Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. * 11. Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. * * Indicates this is an essential duty
Experience Required 2 years’ experience working with end-users to develop data visualizations, dashboards and reports, and using analytics tools and systems. Solid understanding of how data are stored, archived, aggregated, and analyzed, with a solid knowledge of relational databases, data warehouse methodologies, data modeling, and analytics. Experience working with large relational databases, data warehouses, data marts, and analytical tools. Knowledge of and experience with ETL systems, particularly related to MS SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and Transactional SQL (T-SQL). Experience designing and deploying interactive web-based dashboards with drill-down features using development tools such as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), Tableau. Ability to effectively participate and collaborate with IR and IT staff within the organization, as well is with end-users. Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity and changing project requirements, and to be flexible and responsive in working relationships. Knowledge of State of Washington’s budgeting and accounting policies and regulations; management of financial records and reports; and methods of accounting systems design. Ability to demonstrate high skill levels in automated spreadsheets and other tools for financial analysis and reporting, and to analyze complex financial and statistical data and determine their significance. Ability to extract data from complex accounting, reporting and other systems and use automated spreadsheets and other tools for forecasting and financial analysis. Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and recommendations. Ability to work independently; detail-oriented self-starter. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Education Required 1. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or another closely related field from an accredited institution OR an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
Education Preferred Master’s degree in a related field of study from an accredited institution.
