Position Description The Financial Aid Advisor III, under direction, functions as a senior level advisor responsible for counseling and providing financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families. Coordinates the development, implementation and completion of special projects and/or procedures for a specific program. Provides mentorship and training to other staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Coordinates and/or serves as a resource for one or more specialized programs or functions for financial aid. Advises and assists students, parents and university personnel regarding the specialized program or service. • Advises and counsels students, parents, and/or prospective students in solving their educational financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, employment and financial counseling. Responds and researches questions and counseling needs. Provides loan and indebtedness counseling. • Reviews student files, collects supporting documentation, and makes adjustments. Awards, revises and/or approves financial aid through the specific controls of program policy and guidelines. Makes adjustments for compliance issues, and submits corrections. Reviews appeals and makes decisions regarding the validity of these appeals and notifies the student of steps they must take to satisfy judgment rendered to re-establish eligibility for financial aid or scholarships. • Greets visitors and answering questions. Serves as a back-up counselor and a walk-in counselor on a weekly basis and may coordinate coverage. Provides assistance and guidance to staff to ensure that processing activities adhere to established policies and procedures. • Assists with conducting presentations, seminars, and/or workshops for students and professional development training. Trains staff on specialized program or service. Coordinates the planning and executing special events. • Participates in the review, revision, and interpretation of complex rules, regulations, procedures and policies and recommends revisions. Interprets federal, state and institutional policies, procedures and regulations. Provides guidance to staff to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures. • May work with counterparts for sharing best practices, developing and implementing procedures and forms that can be used system wide. May work with state, regional or national committees concerning new, changed or deleted regulations and impacts to financial aid offices and students. • Assists in developing and revising financial aid information, materials, publications and brochures. May assists compliance officer in reviewing policy changes. • May supervise staff and serve as a mentor. Skills Required Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, rules and regulations. Must have working knowledge of the institution’s Student Information System – BANNER. Preferred knowledge of institution’s document management system- Laserfiche. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Oral and written communication skills. Customer Service skills. Ability to work individually or as a team. Ability to organize and make decisions. Ability to relate well with a diverse student population.

Experience Required At least 3 years of related Financial Aid experience needed. Must be recent Must have working knowledge of the institution’s Student Information System – BANNER.
