Position Description Reporting to the Manager of Benefits and Leaves of Absence Administration, the Benefits Specialist assists with the administration of 26 health insurance plans, 5 retirement plans, 16 leave of absence programs and various other plans and programs for a diverse community of faculty and staff. In addition, the Benefits Specialist administers the time and attendance program and acts as the initial point of contact to resolve matters associated with time and attendance accruals and balances. He/she also tracks metrics pertaining to benefits enrollment activity, separations and off boarding, workers’ compensation and various leaves of absence programs, and provides counsel and guidance to employees regarding eligibility, participation and plan features. The Benefits Specialist performs other duties as assigned.
Skills Required • Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service as evidenced by a high level of responsiveness, first call resolution and by providing accurate, timely and complete information. • Ability to handle confidential information with patience, discretion, good judgment, courtesy and tact through effective, accurate and clear communication with excellent verbal, written, interpersonal, reading, and consultation skills. • Intermediate proficiency Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to successfully complete projects and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Skills Preferred
Experience Required At least 2-3 years of related benefits experience in a professional/university setting. Must be recent
Experience Preferred
Education Required Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis
