Position Description Work in assigned phases of construction to secure compliance with International Building codes, Ordinances, Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Specifications, Survey, Zoning Codes, and Design Review Stipulations in Community and Economic Development.
Skills Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: •Basic construction practices, materials, details, specifications, symbols, terminology and codes. •Basic inspection procedures, familiar with Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) practices and ICC codes. •Basic knowledge of building construction materials and methods. •A general understanding of construction phases where possible violations and defects may be discovered and corrected. •Work involves public contact of a nature requiring basic knowledge of building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, MAG specifications, basic survey practices, and zoning codes. •International Building codes, Ordinances, and Design Review Stipulations (DR Stips). •Microsoft Office products and other relevant technologies. Ability to: •Read and interpret plans, Design Review Stipulations (DR Stips), and specifications quickly and accurately and compare them to work in progress. •Communicate verbally with contractors and the general public in non-technical terms. •Keep basic records and perform basic math calculations. •Work on a team and support team performance. •Communicate with contractors, the general public and subordinates in non-technical terms. •Read and visually interpret blue prints and specifications. •Read and interpret all applicable codes, plans and specifications. •Be responsive and customer service oriented. •Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, contractors, developers, as well as citizens to resolve issues. •Complete OSHA/Safety training as required.
Skills Preferred
Experience Required A minimum of one year building inspection experience is required.
Experience Preferred
Education Required HS diploma or GED and any combination or training, education and work experience equivalent to two years construction work in one of the four major trades: Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical or Building Construction or a related field of inspection.
Education Preferred A minimum of one International Code Council / International conference of building Officials (ICC/ICBO) Certification is required in at least one of the four disciplines: Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical, or Building
Additional Information A valid driver license with no major driving citations in the last 39 months may be required.
