The University Technology Office (UTO) Development team at ASU is seeking a highly motivated UX Researcher to create, guide and support the UI/UX of responsive web projects, mobile applications, and our growing base of cutting edge products. UTO Dev is a diverse team of 90+ developers and analysts that provide robust, secure software and systems to the University community of students, faculty, and staff. Join a growing design team focused on simple, engaging user-centered solutions. Our UX team plays a pivotal role in the strategy, conception and design of our innovative digital solutions. You must be highly detail-oriented and organized with excellent analytic and problem-solving abilities. It is also important that you display excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills in order to be flexible and responsive in our fast-paced collaborative peer environment. Our UX Researcher will work closely with business analysts, project managers, developers, and project owners to create innovative, best-in-class user experiences. You will collaborate with design managers in order to help create and validate UX theories, inform design rationales and measure UX improvements. You will have to effectively communicate and present test plans, research findings, conceptual ideas and detailed design rationale for review and feedback. Your focus will be on deeply understanding our target users and their environments. You’ll need to reveal what users need from our products by conducting primary research, exploring behaviors and motivations, and working with diverse teams to develop new features. You’ll have to distill project goals and research questions into well thought-out research plans.
Skills Required • Reveal what users need from our products by conducting primary research, exploring behaviors and motivations, and working with teams of designers, product managers, engineers, and others to develop new features. • Inspire change by delivering engaging presentations about their findings. • Help the UX team understand what makes a user’s experiences feel more intuitive, accessible, and enjoyable. • Collaborates with design managers to use a variety of lab and field research techniques to help create and validate new features. • Identify best method or mix of methods based on research questions, timeline and resourcing. • Distill project goals and research questions into well thought-out research plans. • Conduct and/or commission user research. • Perform quick but thorough data analysis in order to create insightful and actionable findings presentations - both verbal and writing. • Work collaboratively with and mentor UX Designers to raise the bar on making data-driven design decisions
Experience Required • Highly developed organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines with a quick turnaround. • Demonstrated attention to detail • A minimum of 2 years of work experience in statistical analysis, qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis, product usability moderating, experimental design, and test method selection. • Experience with web analytic tools and services such as Google Analytics. • Excellent communication, presentation, and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively. • Experience working in a collaborative team and working directly with developers to ensure the successful implementation of a design. • Working understanding of research strategies like creating personas, journey maps, and user scenarios; conducting task analysis, contextual observation, user interviews, and surveys; and evaluating web analytics.
Education Required • Bachelor's degree in a Graphic Information Technology, Web Design, Research or Statistics or a related degree program or a minimum of 7 years of related experience. • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills • A minimum of 3 years in design or UI/UX research experience
