Facilities Maintenance Technician

Position Description The City of Irvine seeks an experienced Facilities Maintenance Technician. The purpose of positions in this classification is to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks in City buildings and facilities. The work typically is performed under the direction of a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor and direction also may be received from a Lead Facilities Maintenance Technician. City intends to lease (Herc) a compact utility vehicle, i.e. Polaris Ranger, as the means to transport contractual FMT (s), tools, supplies and materials throughout the interior of sports complex and the Great Park western sector. Considerably interested in individuals with certification and/or experience inspection amusement ride equipment (Carousel) and stadium facility maintenance. Pay rate or range: $18 to $28 per hour approximately depending on experience. Wednesday - Sunday
Skills Required Performs and assists in preventive and corrective building maintenance tasks which may involve carpentry, painting, flooring, plumbing, metal fabrication, welding, heating, air conditioning and electrical work. Performs preventive and corrective equipment maintenance tasks, including fitness equipment, playground units, tables, chairs, gates, security and safety equipment/system fences. Assists in troubleshooting various electrical problems involving electrical lines, lighting, switches and controls; replace or repair as necessary. Repairs and replaces electrical fixtures, switches, lighting and related equipment, using a variety of materials, tools, supplies and equipment. Cleans light fixtures as required. Assists in performing the operation, adjustment and repair of air conditioning and heating units, fans, and their components. Monitors contractors for task completion. Performs rough framing and finish work in remodeling offices and other structures. Installs and repairs doors, floors, partitions, locks, roofs and ceilings. Prepares surfaces for painting; mixes and matches paint; applies paint to a variety of building and fixture surfaces. Installs, inspects and repairs playground equipment and athletic court equipment. Inspects, repairs and maintains playground safety surfaces and athletic court surfaces. Mixes, pours and forms concrete. Inspects and maintains appliances, water quality equipment, facilities and other city structures and equipment for safety and compliance to regulations and codes. Inspects, repairs and maintains city pools and pump stations. Position may require working weekends, holidays and other alternate schedules as assigned Position may require working in inclement weather and conditions which may be dusty, dirty, hot, cold, wet, and crowed environments Position may require the use and safe operation of ladders, scaffolds, electric lifts and boom trucks Performs metal fabrication tasks using saws, grinders, MIG and Stick welding equipment, plasma cutter and gas cutting torch Repairs and installs floor tile, carpeting, and other flooring materials. Inputs data to computerized maintenance management system to perform job related tasks and input, query and maintain data. Participates in on-call status. Prepares work orders, inspection forms, and other documents as needed. Performs minor pest control including setting traps and bait stations.

Experience Required High school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical coursework in facilities/building maintenance/repair and two years related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license. 3 years experience
Experience Preferred HS diploma, plus any combination of certification training in maintenance and repair of facilities electrical, plumbing, carpentry, inspection, playground inspection CPSI. 5 years experience or more
Education Required High school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical coursework in facilities/building maintenance/repair and two years related experience, or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license.
