Position Description • Provides paralegal assistance to attorneys in a legal environment with complex and fast-moving program and operational responsibilities. • Research legal areas of concern for members of the legal unit. • Draft, proofread and/or process legal documents, primarily relating to the administrative rulemaking process. • Maintain up-to-date files of all rules and regulations. • Monitor rule expiration dates, rule deadlines and other rule-related items. • Respond to general queries related to rules and rulemaking process. • Secure necessary approvals and signatures for rulemaking process. • Maintain up-to-date contact information for electronic mailing lists and manage legal unit's electronic mailboxes. • Coordinate website posting of legal unit information and rule-related materials. • Maintain records of all subpoenas received and distribute to appropriate staff for handling. • Maintain up-to-date files related to guardianship matters. • Coordinate and track flow of material between legal unit and other units and outside agencies. • Maintain legal library. • Perform other assigned duties such as answering telephones, as needed, and creating case files. • Knowledge of State court system, administrative rule-making process and procedures, and general legal case management techniques.
Skills Required Highly proficient with MS Office Excellent communication skills both verbal and written Knowledge of State court system, administrative rule-making process and procedures, and general legal case management techniques. Quick learner Works well with others
Skills Preferred
Experience Required At least 2 years related experience in a legal setting, such as private law firm, government legal agency or state court. Must be recent! Experience and familiarity with state regulatory process a plus, but not required.
Experience Preferred
Education Required • Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies (ABA-approved program); • Associate's Degree in any general humanities/social sciences field with Paralegal Studies diploma/certificate (ABA-approved program); • Bachelor's Degree, but with Paralegal Studies diploma/certificate (ABA-approved program); or • Certified paralegal (e.g. NALA or NFPA certification).
