Water Distribution Operations Manager

Position Description: • Supervises employees including selecting or recommending selection, training, assigning and evaluating work, counseling, disciplining, and/or termination or recommending termination. • Supervises and participates in the hydraulic analysis of the water systems to determine adequacy, problems, and needs, keeps an accurate up to date model on all going distribution and transmission shutdowns. • Provides oversight and input to keep MMIS / TEAMS data up to date to allow more accurate investigations for water supply and water quality. • Manages the development and utilization of applicable computer models and databases in the Operations of the Water Distribution System including the water distribution system hydraulic model, the Energy Management Software, the Patuxent River Forecast Modeling for Dam Operation and the WSSC SCADA system. • Provides technical oversight for major facilities planning efforts and supervises and participates in the development of the Capital Improvements and Engineering Support Programs. • Evaluates and determines timing for complex water distribution / transmission main / water treatment plant shutdowns and works closely with several groups to coordinate work and scheduled shutdowns.

Skills Required: Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of water distribution systems; ability to coach and supervise water operations staff. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of civil/environmental engineering practices. Must possess the knowledge and skills to effectively access and involve other agencies, internal staff, the general public, public officials, and special interest communities and group. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to use PC and office software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint in the conduct of day to day business. Ability to use, or learn to use, various WSSC mainframe computer applications. Ability to use, or learn to use, water and river hydraulic models, and WSSC’s Geographic Information System and associated applications for the Group.

Experience Required: • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of Civil/Environmental engineering that includes. • 2 years of senior level civil or environmental engineering experience. • 2 years of experience in water and /or sewer modeling.

Education Required: • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Sanitary, Environmental or other related engineering field
