Position Description: To perform basic clerical case surveillance activity, including calling providers to conduct active surveillance, submitting requests to hospitals/medical providers, collecting case documentation, and closing cases in the ADHS Prism data base in order to assist in performing STD/HIV surveillance on over 2,500 cases per month. Will not speak to patients nor their contacts. Due to high case load and multiple vacant Surveillance positions there exists a need to process and document surveillance activities then assign cases that require follow-up to a Communicable Disease Investigator to work. It is necessary to have staff that are thorough, accurate, and can process a high volume of surveillance cases in order to ensure appropriate case management. This will assist in relieving high volume of positive results submitted daily and fulfill the mandated requirement of performing surveillance on all reported STD's and HIV (Administrative Code R9-6-314, R9-6-332, R9-6-341, and syphilis R9-6-375) in order intervene in the spread of infectious diseases. Pay rate: $11.66

Skills Required: Ability to communicate effectively with medical providers, reviewing medical records for case specific information,

Skills Preferred: Knowledge of principles and practices of epidemiology relating to STDs/HIV. Knowledge of research methods, procedures, and techniques used in identifying and evaluating medical practices and health information. Knowledge of medical methods and practices used to detect and treat STDs.

Experience Required: Two years of experience performing clerical/data entry duties in a medical setting, preferably with knowledge of STD symptoms, testing, and treatment.

Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion, Public Health, Medical Technology, Health Sciences or a health related field.
