Position Description: The Web Administrator’s general duties will center on all aspects of the Milwaukee County website, including work on website design and layout as well as routine updates and maintenance. The Web Administrator will coordinate with content authors and contributors to ensure the web presence adheres to organizational standards. The Web Administrator also may have a variety of related responsibilities involving inter-organization intranets and supervising how and when web content is added to the County website. Initially, the Web Administrator will support migration of files and other work to facilitate the deployment and launch of a redesigned and reconfigured version (already built in collaboration with our web vendor, an outside company) of the County website and intranet. Then, the Web Administrator will work with content creators as “webmaster” to facilitate timely and regular updates and provide editorial oversight of content. The Web Administrator’s overall goal will be to ensure a consistent theme and web presence for Milwaukee County. An individual qualified for this role must be organized and be a strong communicator, as they likely will receive input from multiple sources regarding the requirements of and desires for the website’s design and updates. The Web Administrator routinely will work regular business hours, but in some situations may be on call to help troubleshoot any after-hours problems that may occur with the websites under their responsibility. The Web Administrator will work out of the Central Business Office to be the point person for all employees and departments about the Milwaukee County website. TASKS • Help manage site maps and site architecture. The County’s Information Management Services Division would be responsible for creation of the site maps and site architecture, including redesigns and upgrades. • Collaborate with creative staff on design and layout issues to facilitate web publishing. • Guide internal groups on all issues related to the web site. • Facilitate site releases, quality assurance signoff and documentation. • Review, edit, and publish content created by departmental/divisional site administrators. • Ensure content compliance with ADA and other standards. • Train and support departmental/divisional site administrators in the use of the content management system (CMS). • Act as first level of support for any Website issues that Milwaukee County content administrators or the general public report. • Manage the Web Administrator general email address.

Skills Required: The individual must demonstrate fluency in graphic layout design, preferably within a CMS (CMS), including with various graphic and user interface (UI) platforms and the ability to code in HTML. The individual should be a strategic thinker and adaptive with good interpersonal communication and writing skills.

Experience Required: Three to five years experience.

Education Required: The Web Administrator should have a bachelor’s or associate’s degree in web administration, computer science, communications, graphic design or a related field.
