Position Description: The Project Management Office (PMO) Network Architect position is responsible for architecting current and future enterprise data communications systems at or above the enterprise’s Information Technology performance management standards. This highly technical position researches and recommends how the enterprise network department will provide secure and high performing data, voice, wireless and video network services based on best practices in coordination with the Network Operations, Enterprise Data Center, and Information Security Architects. The PMO Network Architect will also investigate and develop bid packages in support of solicitation of vendor bids, as well as involvement and coordination with vendors in deployment efforts and transition of project to operational teams. This position also completes actions that will prevent degradation in service delivery and allow for an ‘always on – always connected’ environment. • Develop network architecture that effectively supports business needs, service-level and availability requirements, Information Security and other technology parameters. • Plan, design, implement and optimize the client network infrastructure in support of all data and VoIP telephony services, data center initiatives and customer connectivity requirements. • Gather business requirements from clients to be used in the planning, forecasting, designing and securing of the enterprise network, including wide area and local area networks. • Produce topologies of complex, large-scale, converged network designs. • Communicate the network strategy, architecture and procurement opportunities to management through well written documents that capture the business benefits and value provided. • Analyze technical needs and business requirements, and provide recommended course of action for meeting objectives. • Assist with the establishment of governing principles for network design and deployment. Establish a growth plan for the network to insure the best quality service in a state-of-the-art environment. • Investigate and develop bid packages in support of solicitation of vendor bids. This effort includes the development of Customer Requirements Document (CRD), High Level Design Document (HLD), Bill of Materials (BOM), and Statement of Work (SOW). Vendor questions and clarifications will need to be supported during the bid process. • Support project implementation efforts on awarded projects including: addressing and providing recommendations based on project impacts, support of Maintenance Window (MW) efforts, as well as review and approval of architectural scope changes. • Assist in transition of completed projects to operational teams. • Act as a primary interface with vendors for resolving high visibility problems. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills Required: Knowledge of data communications security and privacy techniques. Knowledge of, and ability to demonstrate superior troubleshooting skills and the ability to manage service impacting incidents Ability to communicate effectively with multiple equipment vendors effectively to develop appropriate solutions required. Ability to work within design teams and mentor IT colleagues required. Ability to communicate both verbally and written, effectively required. Ability to use research methods, best practices, standards-based architecture and design philosophies to assure the overall health, security and scalability of the network. Ability to effectively influence and communicate cross-functionally with all levels of County management required. Ability to isolate problems, restore services, and determine the root cause of incidents. Ability to provide advanced technical support to Network Engineers required. Ability to analyze, interpret, and present research findings required including technical analysis of business requirements in an effort to properly scope and cost projects across the network lifecycle. Ability to prepare design specifications required. Ability to conceive a variety of solutions to functional problems and to reduce abstract ideas to easily understood procedures required. Ability to work collaboratively with County Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and team members by establishing effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, vendors, and users required. Ability to work willingly in an on-call rotation which may require working, additional hours, and rotating shifts.

Skills Preferred:

Experience Required: Must have experience with Layer 3 technologies: IPv4, OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VRRP, QoS, Multicast. Layer 2 technologies: STP, VLANs, Ether channel, UDLD, ONS, VDC, VPC, QoS; authentication technologies, IPS, Firewalls, VPN, DMVPN; LAN/WAN technologies; and with Data Center networking, multiple vendors’ hardware, routing/switching technology, network security integration, Wireless LAN technology, VoIP and VPN’s. An equivalent combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year for year basis. Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license, or the ability to obtain one, at the time of hire.

Education Preferred: Preferred Education and/or Experience: Three (3) years of supervisory experience. Preferred Training, Certifications and/or Other Special Requirements: Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification. Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE) certification.

Additional Information: Currently this is a 6 month position Working Conditions: Office environment with travel required to perform and conduct site visits and assessments.
