Inpatient Nurse Manager

Nurse Manager of Langley Porter Psychiatric Inpatient Unit is responsible and accountable for providing administrative and clinical leadership. Develops standards of care coordination that demonstrates success in promoting high quality, cost effective delivery of care; ensuring effective utilization of resources, excellent customer service, and compliance with regulatory and internal LPPH&C/UCSF requirements. Spearheads innovative projects and approaches involving multi-disciplinary factions for systems improvement that affects patient outcomes across the organization. Plans, schedules and organizes work for departments ensuring proper distribution of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel, space and facilities. Supervises staff, screens candidates, interviews and hires new employees. Ensures staff competence, compliance with staff licensure/certification requirements and maintenance of related documentation. Conducts performance appraisals, counsels staff, and takes disciplinary action as required in consultation with Human Relations/Labor relations. Ensures compliance with discipline-related action plans.


Full time M-F exempt; hours variable. Must be available to respond to staffing issues off hours occasionally/on-call

  • 5 years relevant experience
    • 2 years nurse management
    • inpatient psychiatry experience in med center (v community hospital)
  • psychiatry experience and knowledge
  • preference for someone with experience with the Recovery Oriented Model of behavioral health services
  • recent success in annual TJC site visits
  • emotional intelligence; ability to handle stressful and intense environment
  • EPIC experience highly preferred



REQUIRED RN LICENSE
CPI cert (Crisis Prevention Training) and CPR current or within 6 month of hire

ANCC RN cert highly preferred in Nurse Exec or Exec-Advanced or in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing

20 yes Coordinates and monitors the patient care delivery system to assure quality care, and compliance with internal policy, external regulations and accepted practices across the continuum of care.
5 yes Partners with managers across services (e.g., outpatient, children's, cancer center, etc.) to implement policies and procedures for coordination of care for all patient populations.
5 yes Represents the department / unit on interdisciplinary committees on a range of patient care topics, such as patient satisfaction levels, workforce quality improvement initiatives, workflow efficiencies and clinical information systems.
5 yes Provides mentorship / leadership to new and emerging nurse leaders to smooth the transition from clinical roles to formal leadership roles. Educates on the business side of healthcare, while maintaining the care side. Reviews and approves individual leadership development plans and assists with identifying resources.
20 yes Manages a unit in a cost effective manner, consistent with the financial goals of the organization. Plans and is accountable for the annual operating and capital budget for areas of responsibility.
5 yes Develops staff in collaborative decision making and shared governance. Creates an environment for a shared voice in nursing practice and the exchange of ideas to continually improve nursing and patient care outcomes.
