Primary Purpose of Job

The Benefits Coordinator is responsible for conducting analyses and interpreting program rules and policies so that benefit programs are administered effectively and in accordance with Client's benefits strategy.

The Benefits Analyst will also evaluate current benefit trends and conduct general benefits administration/communication for all Health & Welfare plans for Client and covered affiliates (approximately 3,600 employees).

Responsibilities: Frequency
Daily / Monthly % of
Respond to employee requests regarding benefits plans, new hire and healthcare questions and benefits policies, refer employees to the Mercer 365 Market Platform when possible, provide benefits support for Client and covered affiliates. Daily 25%
Process benefits payments including: vendor premiums, administrative fees, consulting fees, survey and project invoices. Weekly 10%
Maintain and update all benefits communication including forms, e-mails, new hire orientation presentation, HR portal. Ensure that affiliate companies are aware of changes and provide the updated materials for their employees. Conduct benefits section of new hire orientation. Monthly 5%
Oversee and audit file feeds to carriers as required to ensure correct coverage is initiated or terminated and to establish eligibility for voluntary benefits. Weekly 10%
Assist Benefits Specialist with annual open enrollment process for Client and covered affiliates, including testing, auditing, employee calls, communications, and education. Annually 20%
Assist Benefits Analyst in monthly affiliate billing to ensure accuracy and payment to Client for benefits. Monthly 10%
Assist Benefit Analyst in internal and external audit processes, including documentation and testing, to ensure department compliance with internal procedures and external legislation. Annually 10%
Assist Benefit Analyst in preparing government-required 5500 reports, QSLOB, nondiscrimination testing. Update all Summary Plan Descriptions to comply with current plan design and legal requirements. Manage notification to all employees of all legally required plan documents, Summary Annual Reports and pension funding notice. Monthly 10%

Requirements and Conditions
Must be able to work flexible hours/work schedule
Travel domestically

Bachelor's Degree (accredited school) or equivalent work experience with emphasis in:
Business Administration
Business Management
Human Resource Management

Knowledge (necessary to perform proficiently in this job)
Must have 2-4 years (total) of experience in the following:
Business – General Knowledge of fundamental business practices and concepts that impact the success and profitability of the organization.
Business Management Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, human resource management and efficiency and process methods.
Human Resources Knowledge of principles and procedures for Compensation and Benefits, Employee Relations, Recruitment and Selection, and HRIS.

Skills & Abilities:
Benefits Coordinator must have good communication skills
Ability to collect data and establish facts and identify trends and variances
Ability to integrate information from a variety of sources with varied levels of complexity
Ability to review and interpret and evaluate statistical information

Strong analytical background
Thorough understanding of job analysis, job evaluation systems and market pricing methods
Knowledge of statistical techniques used to derive salary and wage structures, ability to plan and conduct wage and salary surveys, analyze survey data and prepare compensation reports for managers
Excellent presentation, verbal and written communications skills and the ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization
Knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA and other relevant state and federal regulations
Comprehensive knowledge of Client organization including functional responsibilities and reporting relationships
