Mainframer Server Capacity Planning Team Manager position: Manages team responsible for the design, configuration, implementation, capacity planning and forecasting for mainframe servers. Deals with most difficult or complex systems and generates new design ideas. Interfaces with business areas to ensure all initiatives support business strategies and goals. Liaison with vendors, consultants and Sr Tech Mgrs. Responsible for staffing, performance management and compensation decision making. Ensures proper training and staffing on an on-going and project basis. Typically 7-10 years mainframe systems experience with a minimum 2-3 years managerial background in a mainframe IT related field.
Job Description
As a Mainframe Server Capacity Planning Team manager, will be responsible for the team that manages the design, configuration, implementation, capacity planning and forecasting of mainframe servers. Insures efficient usage of enterprise mainframe server resources to meet customer/client demand at the lowest hardware and software costs. Responsible for Define Capacity configurations. Influences teams in the design, development, and implementation of system engineering activities involving cross-functional technical support and data center capabilities. Reviews technical system quality and risk and escalates problems in meeting system requirements. Viewed as a technology subject matter expert; able to provide and communicate complex technology solutions across differing audiences including technical, managerial, business executives, and/or vendors. Will have responsibility for multiple, complex projects; will direct activities of teams related to special initiatives or operations. Leads the resolution process for complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criterion for obtaining results. Is a technical leader that stays current with new IBM Z technology and promotes new features/functionality to improve mainframe applications and/or lower cost.
Required Skills:
Information technology degree and/or technology certifications preferred or substantial equivalent experience.
Preferred candidate would have experience managing a mainframe capacity planning team. Must possess strong mathematical, statistical and analytical skills, have a complete understanding of mainframe capacity planning concepts and be able to support capacity forecasting. Must have extensive knowledge of IBM Z server hardware and in-depth working knowledge of RMF and SMF data. Must be proficient with RMF, MICS, SAS, MXG and Omegamon. Preferred candidate would also have background with simulation or analytical modeling, have a good understanding of queuing theory and possess zPCR experience. Basic subsystem knowledge of CICS, IMS and DB2 would be a plus. Working knowledge of Defined Capacity. Must be able to communicate and lead effectively. 7-10 years of IT experience with a minimum 2-3 years with managerial background in a mainframe IT related field.
