This position is responsible for the management of procurement execution tasks within the R&D categories in support of the Discovery and Pre-clinical areas. Primary responsibilities will include negotiation and execution of service agreements with varying complexity. Responsibilities will also include sourcing strategy development, stakeholder management, supplier relationship management activities, and leading project teams through competitive bidding and supplier selection processes.

Supplier Management: may have responsibility for performance management of key supplier relationships. Partner with key customers to address team support and performance issues with suppliers. Focused on tail and segment 2 suppliers. 10% of Time

Competitive Bidding: initiate and manage competitive bidding events with low complexity. 10%-20% of Time
Sourcing Strategy Development: Shape business partner strategies and meet business needs through providing external market insights. 0-10% of Time
Negotiation Leadership: Lead negotiations with suppliers. 0-10% of Time
Category Execution responsibilities: support/management of business partner needs, development of supply/service agreements, implement change orders & work orders within category, analysis & analytical work in support of category strategy development, category management activities as directed by supervisor. 50% of Time
Other Projects - 10% of Time

Implements and administers standard Procurement policies and processes for multiple departments/geographic area, client group, or functional project.
Will have the autonomy and authority to make decisions for his/her category.

Must have effective time management skills, ability to prioritize requests, and propose effective cost/customer service alternatives when necessary.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Describe where this position fits in relation to the rest of the department it resides. Attach org chart if available.
The role will report to a Category Manager, Senior Category Manager or Director.

Will interface with Discovery and Preclinical business partners at various levels, colleagues in Client R&D, as well as with peers in JRP (Pharmaceutical R&D Procurement).
Significant interactions with external suppliers, including establishing and maintaining relationships with senior management of incumbent and non-incumbent suppliers.

BA/BS in business, engineering, life sciences or related field required
Project Management experience is a strong plus.
Must have excellent communication skills, be results oriented and customer-focused.
Demonstrated procurement or negotiating experience a plus.
Experience as a user or provider of outsourced services a plus
Experience in the pharmaceutical industry and in developing drugs/devices/consumer products is a plus.
Experience in or exposure to the areas of Discovery and/or Pre clinical Research is a plus
