As a Specialist in Nonconventional Manufacturing Process, you will work as part of a team and be responsible for experiments specific to developing electrochemical, electrothermal and other nonconventional means of metal removal processes.

Working closely with researchers to:
• Develop and Setup Experimental Test Equipment;
• Execute test plans;
• Gather and organize test data
• Provide key experimental observations with resulting data;
• Troubleshoot experimental setups and results;

These processes will include but not limited to Electro Discharge Machining (EDM), Electrochemical (ECM), Abrasive Water Jet (AWJ), and Hybrid methods for machining of industrial materials.

You will:
• Participate in conceptualizing solutions using nonconvention manufacturing process technology to improve process capability.
• Build test cells for experimental process development.
• Provide CAD/CAM support to develop experimental workpieces, fixtures, and tooling.
• Program Numerically Controlled (NC) and Data Acquisition (DAQ) systems.
• Procure parts and materials to build prototype hardware and fixtures.
• Execute, gather, and document experimental results.
• Support communication of data analysis and key experimental observations to make technical decisions.
• Troubleshoot test setups.
• Effectively manage time and coordination of tasks to support multiple projects simultaneously.
• Work individually or as part of a small team.
• Be a self-starter with a sense of urgency and execution mindset.
Perform all work in accordance with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) guidelines.

Required Qualifications/skills
• A Bachelor's degree in an engineering, technology, or a closely related field, and a minimum of 5 years' industry or research experience; or an Associate's degree with at least 10 years of industry or research experience
• Experience with factory operations & process troubleshooting
• Proven track record of sound decision making in an industrial setting
• Hands on skill with at least one of the following:
o Electro Discharge Machining
o Electro Chemical Machining
o Abrasive Water Jet
o Conventional Machining
• Experience working with people from a wide range of technical disciplines and across the spectrum of expertise and hands-on knowledge
• Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills; the ability to listen effectively
• Ability to record, organize, and communicate experimental lab data
• Proficiency at implementing data acquisition strategies
• Proficiency in 2D- and 3D-CAD tools
• Experience running and programming NC machining centers
• Demonstrated project management and process design skills
• Ability to travel approximately 10%
• Demonstrated chemical and electrical hygiene

Desired Qualifications/ Skills
• Background and strong interest in part finishing and manufacturing / machining
• Hands on experience and skill with ALL of the following :
o Electro Discharge Machining
o Electro Chemical Machining
o Abrasive Water Jet
o Conventional Machining
• Additional Experience in the following topics are desirable:
o Robotics and automation systems and factory implementations.
o Electrochemical characterization tools and techniques
o NDE methods and measurement tools and equipment (e.g. CMM)
o Electrical engineering and circuit design capability
o Welding processes (Hands on or automated)
o Analytical Chemical Techniques
o Implementation of preventative maintenance schedules for research equipment.
o Surface finishing processes and measurement
o Tolerance stack-up analysis
• Strong aptitude for developing and conducting statistically designed experiments in factory and laboratory settings
