As a Litigation Claims Representative you will be responsible for investigating, evaluating, and resolving third party claims and lawsuits against Client, resulting from gas, generation and corporate operations and involving damage to property of customer & the general public, personal injury and motor vehicle accidents. Substantial involvement with inside and outside counsel is necessary.

Key Accountabilities

• Investigates, analyzes and resolves claims involving damage to customer & general public property, personal injury or motor vehicle by using established department procedures and problem solving skills
• Extensive handling of commercial general liability and auto liability injury and property losses
• Manages field investigations of all serious injury and vehicular damage incidents under the supervision of Claim Manager.
• Develops reports in a timely manner using the data collected and any expert or witness information collected
• Establishes strategic negotiating positions when settling claims and/or lawsuits with claimants or attorneys
• Proactively manages the litigation process. Actively participates in mediations, arbitrations and attends trials
• Provides litigation support to Claim Manager & attorneys defending cases against the Company, including the preparation of witnesses, gathering Company records and discovery
• Maintains cordial and professional relationships with claimants, customers and individuals who have experienced property loss/damage or medical injury
• Develops and effectively communicates complex information accurately, concisely and comprehensively, both orally and in written form.
• Ensures adequacy of reserves
• Periodic, regular 24/7 on-call for after hours and weekend phone response on claim events


• At least 5 years of experience as an investigator or adjuster for a self-insured, third party administrator or casualty insurance carrier required. Utility company operations experience a plus.
• Must possess a valid New York State Claim Adjuster License
• Strong understanding of the rules of negligence, company tariff protections as well as state and local laws
• Ability to analyze variables, such as medical records and legal documentation
• Extensive litigation claim handling experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills including strong negotiating/settlement skills

• Good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and databases. Business Analytics reporting a plus.

Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
