Battery Technician

Requirements: Associate degree in Engineering and/or Science or 2 years of college with Engineering and/or Science coursework.
Experience: 3-5 years in lab or testing environment.

Typical Duties: Understands and interprets customer and industry specifications. Conducts electrical and mechanical defect analysis of batteries per Client and customer procedures. Records and reports results and communicates with engineer on test progression. Enters results of tests on PC and assists engineers on specific projects. Performs a variety of miscellaneous lab activities and follows proper laboratory safety and housekeeping practices. Related duties as assigned.


Primary Purpose

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for conducting battery testing and associated activities. Ensures that all testing is performed to required procedures/specifications and data is accurate.

Typical Duties:

  • Conduct lead acid and Li-ion battery testing including electrical characterization, life testing and abuse tolerance tests

  • Program computer controlled battery testing equipment.

  • Program and operate data acquisition equipment

  • Purchase or assemble test fixtures and cables to accommodate product testing.

  • Analyze test data, provide charts and test reports

  • Close out Engineering Product Tests by posting test data and summarizing results.

  • Prepare for and conduct abuse tolerance and mechanical testing

  • Maintain and troubleshoot battery test equipment.

  • Provide Engineering with updates to operating procedures for battery testing

  • Assist in managing outsourced laboratory work

  • Establish and maintain good working customer relationships resulting in excellent customer satisfaction.

  • Perform work following proper laboratory safety and housekeeping practices

  • Package, ship and receive product

  • Related duties as assigned.


  • Associate degree in Electronics or related Science

  • Good computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, data analysis and written reports.

  • Good mechanical aptitude

  • Direct experience in a product testing desirable

  • Travel expectation is less than 20%

    Working Conditions:

    Position is in a test lab and includes the potential for exposure to hazardous conditions including high voltage.
