Regulatory Affairs Associate

We are seeking a Regulatory Affairs Associate who will provide regulatory compliance and nutrition leadership and support for Client businesses, working closely with cross-functional partners. Must have demonstrated proficiency to interpret food labeling regulations and laws and identify viable creative solutions to support innovation and growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regulatory compliance and label creation and artwork review (70%)
• Create Nutrition Facts Panels and ingredient lists for applicable products
• Provide consumer-facing label reviews and guide the Creative team on label design
• Approve raw material and finished good nutrition information and data
• Interpret US and international regulations for foods to ensure regulatory compliance
• Review and approve packaging, advertising, website and communication materials
• Register products, maintain and submit documentation and invoices from state regulatory agencies
• Coordinate efforts for internal and external requests of technical product information
• Substantiate and align product claims for compliance and ensure documentation in place
• Manage internal nutrient database by assuring robust nutrient data from suppliers, USDA, and chemical analysis
• Lead documentation control and system testing for the regulatory team

Business Building & Growth (30%)
• Influence regulatory direction and drive strategy on cross-functional teams at all points in the stage-gate process
• Apply nutrition expertise to identify nutrition opportunities and guide strategic nutrition direction
• Support substantiation of product and nutrition claims and product naming in new areas
• Collaborate with product developers to evaluate supplier data for new or new ingredients
• Monitor food labeling regulatory activity; assess business opportunities and impact to brands

PREFERRED CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Biology, Food Science, or related scientific field
• 2+ years of experience in a Regulatory Compliance (food labeling) role with a Client food manufacturer or ingredient supplier; experience in food labeling for nutrition-focused products (dairy, cereals, bars, shakes, meals) and/or supplements
• Demonstrated proficiency to interpret U.S. food regulations and strong ability to navigate international labeling regulations

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of food composition as it relates to food labeling
• Scientific proficiency and ability to understand science-based regulations and communicate scientific topics to various functions, including marketing and legal
• Ability to handle complexity, multiple projects and requests, and short timelines
• Strong drive for results and ability to bring projects to completion
• Good judgment, decisiveness, and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable with labeling databases, computer software, and systems
• Detail oriented, accurate and excellent record keeping skills
• Comfortable with ambiguity and problem solving
• Strong written and oral communication skills
