Position Description
The position is for a Component Engineer with general responsibility for identifying, characterizing, and qualifying components used in implantable medical devices. The position will interface directly with component suppliers, internal development customers, internal manufacturing customers, and internal quality partners. This position will also assure materials used in implantable product are of high quality and reliability. This is done via the management of suppliers and of components with focus on data driven decisions.

Position Responsibilities
• Quantify and document that component suppliers are capable of meeting established requirements
• Perform detailed technical characterization work related to new components / suppliers
• Document and perform to detailed qualification plans with first pass success
• Quantify component performance within current manufacturing processes to ensure component reliably meets requirements after manufacturing stresses are applied
• Drive quality ownership and accountability to suppliers - via in-line process controls and outgoing acceptance testing
• Final product level reliability (component related)
• Work proactively with our suppliers to improve their quality systems
• Work closely with the Sourcing organization in the process of supplier selection, risk management/mitigation, and inspection method selection

Basic Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or similar discipline.
• 5 years experience in a Manufacturing environment
• Experience with battery, feed-through technologies
• Applied knowledge of DOE, SPC, FMEA, Gage R&R, Basic Statistics
• Demonstrated technical writing skills
• Proficient in MS Office - MS Project focus

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
• Six Sigma green belt or black belt certified
• Design for Reliability and Manufacturability (DRM) knowledge
• Expert level statistics and DOE knowledge
• Demonstrated success in process improvement and control
